Urwerk closes the year with UR-230 “Black Star”
Urwerk closes the year with UR-230 “Black Star”

Urwerk has added a new black watch to its portfolio - the UR-230 “Black Star” arrives in a newly developed composite ceramic case, which does not reflect light to shine, but rather absorbs it, giving it a dense, dark look. A limited edition of just 35, the timepiece is the final model in its 230-series trilogy, after the UR-230 “Eagle” in carbon and the UR-230 “Polaris” in ceramic.

The case is crafted from a laminated composite of braided ceramic, fibreglass, and carbon fibre within a polymer matrix. When machined, the material reveals a glossy black surface dotted with reflective points. This composite shell surrounds a titanium inner container designed to protect the movement, along with a black DLC-coated titanium caseback. The case measures 44.81 mm in width, 53.55 mm in length, and 14.30 mm in thickness, with sapphire crystals on the front and back and a water resistance of 30 metres.

For time-telling, the signature wandering hours take centre stage. The satellite hour display with three rotating aluminium cubes spans the 120° minute sector. An aluminium retrograde minutes hand escorts the active satellite across the hour track before returning instantly to zero each hour. Two windows at 11 and 1 o’clock show the status of the winding system. A dual-turbine mechanism regulates this automatic system, with one turbine moderating shocks and the other controlling airflow to adjust the winding rate. The wearer can adjust the rotor via a control on the back or completely deactivate it by switching to manual-winding mode. Super-LumiNova markings in multiple colours help identify the different indicators.

After the Eagle and the Polaris, Urwerk’s self-winding UR-7.30 calibre drives the Black Star as well. It beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and offers a 48-hour power reserve, which comes from a double-barrel setup. The movement architecture incorporates an ARCAP P40 baseplate, and central carousel and screws in grade 5 titanium.

The UR-230 “Black Star” is delivered on a vulcanised rubber strap with a Velcro fastening. It is priced at approx. INR 1,67,20,000.
