Italian watch brand Venezianico has unveiled its latest watch, which pays tribute to the historic trade routes linking India and Venice. The Nereide Tigris has a dial crafted from genuine Tiger’s Eye stone that links back to the historical era when centuries of commerce brought precious gemstones, spices, and luxury materials from India to Venice. Venice has played a historical role as a commercial gateway between East and West. As documented by Pliny the Elder in the 1st century AD, India was a major source of precious gemstones for the Roman Empire, and Venice later inherited these ancient trade routes, becoming one of the world's foremost trading hubs where goods, craftsmanship, and cultures converged. Brothers Alberto and Alessandro Morelli, founders of Venezianico, chose Tiger’s Eye as the centrepiece of the watch to reflect this enduring cultural and commercial connection.
The timepiece expands the brand’s dive watch collection, the Nereide, and its name combines "Tigris," derived from the Latin word for tiger, referencing the Tiger’s Eye gemstone, and "Nereide," which recalls the submarine built at Venice’s Royal Arsenal, symbolising the city’s long-standing connection to naval engineering and exploration.

The dial has been cut from natural Tiger’s Eye, a quartz variety formed over millions of years through slow geological processes. Its fibrous internal structure creates the optical effect known as chatoyancy, producing shifting golden, amber, and deep brown reflections that change with the angle of light. As the watch moves on the wrist, the stone reveals constantly changing patterns and depth, making every Nereide Tigris unique, with no two dials sharing the same veining, colour distribution, or fibre arrangement.
Powering the watch is the brand’s first mechanical movement, the V5000 Calibre, completely made in Italy. It beats with an accuracy of ±3 seconds per day at a frequency of 3.5 Hz and offers a power reserve of about 60 hours. The timepiece is completed with a five-link Sansovino bracelet featuring alternating satin-brushed and polished surfaces and a clasp with an integrated micro-adjustment system that allows easy adjustments without tools.
The Venezianico Nereide Tigris is priced at approx. INR 1,40,000.
