Once upon a time, when time itself was bound.

To measure time, one had to first give time.

Always winding, always tending!

Until, one man dared to dream the impossible - to set time free!

This is the story of that revolutionary man who, like Prometheus, gifted mankind something extraordinary.

A rebel, a visionary - this is the story of Abraham-Louis Perrelet and the legacy he left behind.

A time for change!

The late 18th century was a time of great change. With Europe in the grips of Enlightenment and the industrial revolution stirring to life, change was everywhere.

In an era when time had to be tended, Perrelet was a man ahead of his time.

Abraham-Louis Perrelet

Born in 1729, Perrelet’s beginnings were humble but his mind was anything but ordinary. His dream was to create a watch that would not require manual winding.

The man who changed time!

Born into a family of watchmakers, Perrelet's love affair with horology began early. By 24 his innate talent secured him a job in the most renowned watchmaking workshop of the time - the workshop of Abraham-Louis Breguet. For years, Perrelet learned and perfected his craft and when his apprenticeship was over, returned back to Le Locle with the idea of creating the first self-winding watch.

After years of toiling away in his tiny workshop, one evening in 1777, Perrelet was struck by an idea.

What if motion could wind a watch?

And soon, the prototype of the world’s first self-winding watch lay on his desk!

A watch that winds itself!

The unique metallic rotor he created spun freely in both directions, propelled by the owner’s natural movement to wind the watch. And as he moved, energy was transferred to the mainspring, ensuring that the watch stayed powered without the need for manual winding!

The challenge of changing time!

The pages of history are filled with mentions of visionaries who came before their time in a world too blind to see their brilliance.

Though revolutionary, Perrelet’s creation was too disruptive. The world wasn’t ready to embrace this radical departure from tradition. The artisans of Geneva, Paris, and London had spent centuries perfecting their manual movements, and the thought of an automatic system was, to many, absolutely wild!

But Perrelet was stubborn in that quiet, unshakeable way that only true visionaries are. Instead of retreating, he continued perfecting his design, unmoved by rejection.

Funnily enough, time finally caught up! Perrelet’s self-winding mechanism didn’t just vanish - it lay dormant, waiting until the world was ready.

Evolving through time

Immortality is a gift few receive and even fewer deserve.

Perellet however earned his place in history through sheer perseverance and relentless ingenuity. Now, even two centuries later, Perrelet’s legacy still ticks on.

In 1995, Maison Perrelet introduced the Double Rotor, a system where two rotors work together to wind the watch's automatic mechanism. The First Class Double Rotor is powered by the P-181-H calibre, the first entirely in-house manufactured Double Rotor movement.

In 2012, with the launch of the in-house caliber P-321, Perrelet once again became a watchmaking manufacture, where all components of the watches are produced internally.

Turbine Chrono

They continued their success story by creating two iconic timepieces in 2013, the Turbine Chrono and the Turbine Tourbillon.

Turbine Tourbillon

Since the debut of the first Turbine concept, Perrelet has solidified its reputation in haute horology, and here are some notable mentions:

Turbine Diver

Another notable piece is the Turbine Diver, built for professional divers. Released in 2018, the watch not only boasts Perrelet’s iconic turbine movement but also offers 500-meter water resistance.

Turbine Pink Flamingo

Their latest launch, the Turbine Pink Flamingo, commands attention with cutting-edge engineering and bold design. With its signature 12-blade turbine dial revealing a striking pink flamingo motif, this timepiece blends Swiss precision with the flamboyant spirit of Miami.

The revolution continues

To wear a Perrelet is to wear a piece of history - one that doesn’t just mark time but transforms it into an experience. And true to their DNA, Perrelet continues to push the boundaries of watchmaking, seamlessly blending innovation with timeless craftsmanship - leaving us eager for what comes next.
