This year, Seiko has marked its 145th anniversary, and the Japanese watchmaker celebrates the milestone with a limited-edition series of watches inspired by Edo purple (Edo-murasaki), a traditional Japanese colour symbolising the brand’s deep, generation-spanning ties with Tokyo – the metropolis formerly known as Edo, where founder Kintaro Hattori opened his first timepiece repair and sales shop in 1881 – in its Ginza district. It was during the Edo era (1603–1868) that the ‘Edo purple’ colour emerged as one of the most defining and popular colours.
The six-model anniversary series spans Seiko’s renowned lines – two in Prospex, and one each in the Astron, Presage, Seiko 5 Sports, and Seiko Selection – with all models marked “LIMITED EDITION” on their casebacks. The timepieces will be available for purchase at Seiko Boutiques and selected retailers worldwide from October 2026.

The Prospex Alpinist HBC006 revisits the original 1959 Seiko Laurel Alpinist and includes a modern interpretation of its distinctive “Alpinist” logotype beneath the Seiko name. Its purple dial combines wedge-shaped indexes and Arabic numerals with gold-coloured accents, while a matching purple-stitched leather strap sourced from LWG-certified tanneries completes the design. Its stainless-steel case measures 39.5 mm, finished with a super-hard coating and topped by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Beating inside is the automatic Calibre 6R55 at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), with a power reserve of 72 hours. The watch is water-resistant up to 200 metres and magnetically resistant up to 4,800 A/m. Limited to 7,000 pieces, it is priced at approx. INR 86,000.

The Prospex Speedtimer Solar Chronograph HBJ005 draws on Seiko’s sports-timing heritage of the 1960s and 1970s, introducing purple accents on both the dial and tachymeter-scale aluminium bezel insert. Powered by solar Calibre V192, it features a 24-hour hand and power-reserve indicator. The stainless-steel case measures 41.4 mm in diameter and is topped with a curved sapphire crystal. It is completed with a three-link bracelet with a three-fold clasp, 100-metre water resistance, and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance. Limited to 8,000 pieces, the watch is priced at approx. INR 70,000.

The Astron GPS Solar Dual-Time Chronograph HAB011 interprets Edo purple through a vertically graduated dial with a horizontal pattern of varying line widths inspired by the changing colours of the sky at dusk; the hands and indexes use LumiBrite. It comes in a 43.3 mm titanium case, super-hard-coated, and completed with a ceramic centre-link bracelet. Its GPS Solar Calibre 5X83 provides GPS-controlled time and time-zone adjustment, dual time with AM/PM indication, a 1/20-second chronograph counter at 12 o’clock, a 12-hour hours-and-minutes counter at 6 o’clock during chronograph operation, a perpetual calendar through 2100, automatic DST adjustment, high-speed time-zone adjustment, time transfer, signal-reception indication, 38-zone world time, and a power-save function. Accuracy is rated at ±15 seconds per month without GPS reception between 5°C and 35°C. The watch is water-resistant to 100 metres, with the same magnetic resistance. Limited to 2,000 pieces, it is priced at approx. INR 2,86,000.

The Presage Cocktail Time HCB006 plays the “Edo Murasaki,” an original cocktail created by Hisashi Kishi of STAR BAR, the first bartender to receive Japan’s “Contemporary Master Craftsman” distinction. Its deep purple translucent dial has a radial pattern and subtle highlights reminiscent of gold flakes, complemented by gold-coloured Seiko and GMT-hand details. The automatic Calibre 4R34 operates at 3 Hz, with a 41-hour power reserve and an independently adjustable 24-hour hand. The 40.5 mm stainless-steel case and bracelet feature a deployment clasp with push-button release, a box-shaped Hardlex crystal, and a see-through screw caseback. Water resistance is 50 metres and magnetic resistance is 4,800 A/m. The limited edition comprises 6,000 pieces at approx. INR 60,000.

The Seiko 5 Sports SKX HDB003 takes the familiar SKX-series design and gives it an Edo-purple treatment, combining a deep purple dial with gold-coloured accents, vertically striated indexes, and a glossy Hardlex bezel. It uses automatic Calibre 4R36 with a 3 Hz frequency and a 41-hour power reserve. The stainless-steel case measures 42.5 mm with a curved Hardlex crystal, complemented by a bracelet with a three-fold secure-lock clasp and push-button release. The dial features LumiBrite hands and indexes. Water resistance is 100 metres and magnetic resistance is 4,800 A/m. Limited to 9,999 pieces, it is priced at approx. INR 45,000.

Completing the anniversary range is the Seiko Selection HFL001, a revival-inspired digital model based on the 1982 “Rotocall,” a design known for its distinctive rotary switch for functions such as the alarm, timer, and stopwatch, and reportedly associated with astronauts. The new version combines an all-black case with a purple rotary switch and gold-coloured Seiko logo and function markings. Quartz Calibre A824 provides an accuracy of ±20 seconds per month at 5°C to 35°C. Its stainless-steel case and bracelet receive a black hard coating, while a rotating bezel, Hardlex crystal, digital display, and screw caseback complete the design. Measuring 37 mm, it offers 100 m water resistance and comes with a steel bracelet. The edition is limited to 4,000 pieces and priced at approx. INR 56,000.
