The Hong Kong-based watch enthusiasts’ club Watch Ho & Co(mmunity) has once again joined hands with its homegrown microbrand Selten to release its 3rd anniversary watch. The new Yum Cha is a 100-piece special edition that turns founder Jackie Ho's childhood memories of Hong Kong tea houses into an artisanal piece. The watch is inspired by the traditional bamboo steamer basket and the ritual of Yum Cha – literally “drinking tea,” with Dim Sum meaning “to touch the heart.” The Yum Cha is a limited edition of 100 and is a tribute to Ho’s grandparents, particularly his grandmother, who raised him.

The hand-engraved Fumé Grand Feu enamel dial at the centre is made from fine silver. It features a striking pattern inspired by the woven structure of a bamboo steamer, layered with dark brown transparent enamel that produces a honey-gold centre gradually turning smoky towards the edges. Floating above the dial are diamond-cut, frosted tea-leaf-shaped hands, carrying forward the Yum Cha theme.

The dial is made entirely by hand by Selten’s Master Qin, who, working under a microscope, divides the silver base into around 80 rectangles and cuts more than 40 parallel lines into each, deliberately varying their direction, depth, and pressure to create the shimmering light-and-shadow effect. A single mistake can destroy the entire plate. The process requires about 8 hours of engraving, 7 hours of Grand Feu enamelling, and 1.5 hours of final hand polishing, or approximately 16.5 hours per completed dial. The enamel is applied in at least eight layers, with each layer fired at around 800°C, while more than 40% of prototypes were rejected. Consequently, no two dials are identical.

The case measures 38 mm in diameter, 9.95 mm thick, and 44.5 mm lug-to-lug. It is made from 316L high-grade stainless steel and features a Top Hat sapphire crystal with eight layers of internal and external anti-reflective coating. Water resistance is 50 metres.

A solid caseback carries a stamped illustration by artist @onehourwatch, depicting the founder as a child at a bustling tea-house table with his grandparents. The artwork contains several deliberate references to the number three – three Siu Mai, three teacups, three pairs of chopsticks, and table number three – marking both the family circle and WH&C’s third anniversary. The table-number stand can also be personalised with an owner’s milestone date or lucky number, up to three digits.

Inside, Yum Cha uses a manual-winding Sellita SW200-2 M Power+ movement with a 65-hour power reserve, adjusted to five positions for an accuracy target of ±6 seconds per day. The watch is fitted with a HasNoBounds hand-stitched tan Italian nubuck leather strap and a brushed 316L stainless-steel pin buckle.

The presentation follows the theme – each watch comes in a genuine handcrafted bamboo steamer basket with three handcrafted bamboo coasters, a custom warranty card styled like a traditional Hong Kong red Dim Sum order card, and signed artwork.
