Independent Swiss watchmaker Formex introduced the Essence collection in 2018, followed by the Field Automatic in 2022 and the Reef dive-watch collection in 2023. In 2025, it marked its 25th anniversary with the Essence Space Glacier, featuring a dial made from Muonionalusta meteorite. In 2026, the brand continued to expand its range with experimental models and introduced the AirField collection. The new AirField draws inspiration from the rugged field watch and is designed as a modern pilot’s watch.

The model features a Grade 2 hardened titanium case with a thickness of 10.6 mm, a perceived thickness of 8.8 mm, a lug width of 20 mm, a lug-to-lug distance of 46.6 mm, and a case weight of 54 grams. The case has a matte finish, faceted surfaces, and short lugs. The case and bezel are hardened to approximately 900 Vickers, making their surfaces significantly harder than standard stainless steel. A screw-down crown provides water resistance up to 150 metres, while sapphire crystals with anti-reflective treatment on the inside protect the front and back. The caseback features an engraved image of a classic radial aircraft engine and propeller.

The watch is available in four dial colours – Desert Sand, Horizon Blue, Jet Black, and Tarmac Grey. Each dial has a finely grained, stamped surface and a sloping chapter ring. Recessed Arabic numerals and hour markers are filled by hand with Grade A Super-LumiNova BGW9 for visibility in low light. Broad, sandblasted, sword-shaped hour and minute hands use the same luminous material. A triangle flanked by two dots marks 12 o’clock, while the seconds hand features an aircraft-shaped counterweight. A date aperture is present at 6 o’clock and matches the colour of the dial disc.

Powering the watch is the Swiss-made Sellita SW200-2 Power+ automatic movement, which operates at a frequency of 4 Hz, offers a power reserve of 65 hours, and contains 26 jewels. The movement drives hours, minutes, seconds, and a date display.

The model is paired with either a lightweight, water-resistant, and washable elastic nylon strap or an Italian calf-leather strap. The nylon strap uses a Velcro closure and straight quick-release spring bars, while the leather strap features straight quick-release spring bars and is secured with a carbon-fibre-composite deployant clasp. The clasp includes a patented gradual micro-adjustment system that allows the wearer to adjust the fit by up to 7 mm.
The AirField paired with the leather strap and deployant clasp is priced at approximately INR 1,11,000, while the nylon strap version is priced at approximately INR 96,000.
