Bringing the spirit of the sea to the wrist, Rado has expanded its Captain Cook collection with two new references that capture the essence of the ocean. These novelties introduce a new 39mm case size—a first for the Captain Cook line—featuring two distinct ceramic bezels and gradient dials that reflect both calm and adventurous marine moods.
The first model, reference R32223203, evokes serene tropical views with a light blue-to-silver gradient dial, matched by a polished light blue high-tech ceramic bezel insert featuring silver metallised markers. This dial’s soft oceanic tones conjure memories of clear skies over lagoons, like those in St Barts and the Barrier Reef. Meanwhile, reference R32223213 tells a more thrilling tale, its bold black-to-turquoise gradient dial paired with a polished black ceramic bezel insert adorned with white Super-LumiNova® accents. It’s a watch for those drawn to the deeper, more mysterious side of the sea—perfect for sailing, deep-sea fishing, or winter swims in Nordic waters.
Both references are housed in 39mm stainless steel cases with a slender 12mm profile, a new addition to the Captain Cook family alongside the existing 37mm and 42mm models. The stainless steel build includes polished screw-down casebacks embossed with three seahorses, and screw-down crowns engraved with Rado’s laser-enhanced anchor logo. Made for divers, the watch offers a robust 300 metre water resistance.
Protected by box-shaped sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coatings on both sides, the dials showcase rhodium-coloured applied indexes and hands filled with white Super-LumiNova®, which glows blue in low light for excellent legibility. The floating anchor symbol on a ruby background echoes the 1962 origins of the Captain Cook line.
Inside, the Rado calibre R763 powers the watches, an automatic movement boasting a lengthy 80-hour power reserve and antimagnetic Nivachron™ hairspring. This movement is adjusted in five positions, ensuring reliable accuracy whether you're beneath the waves or lounging above them.
Giving a nod to the vintage roots are the polished and brushed beads-of-rice stainless steel bracelets equipped with Rado’s EasyClip system for tool-free adjustments and a secure three-fold clasp.
What we think -
Rado seems to be on fire this year with back to back editions of the Captain Cook, and this one meets the sweet spot with the all new 39mm case, which is a wonderful edition between the 37mm and 42mm versions. Something for everyone.
