Junghans 1972 Competition
German watchmaker Junghans, renowned for its Bauhaus-inspired timepieces, revived its 1970s vintage sports style with the new 1972 Competition, which is offered in an oval-shaped stainless steel case measuring 45.5 mm × 41 mm. The case features a screw-down crown and pushers positioned at the top like a classic stopwatch.
The watch comes with two dial options—white (Ref. 27/4509) or dark grey (Ref. 27/4504) sunburst, finished with matte transparent lacquer, matte white or black totalizers and tachymeter, and a minute track. Hour and minute hands are coated with luminous material. The 3 o’clock position features a date window, 6 o’clock a small seconds counter with stopwatch function, the brand logo lies at 9 o’clock, and 12 o’clock gets a 30-minute counter.
The watch is powered by the J880.5 self-winding movement, with a 48‑hour power reserve (without chronograph use), visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. It is water-resistant up to 100 metres and comes with a matching perforated leather strap.
