Collaborating for the third time with the Italian design house Zagato, Chopard has unveiled a new limited-edition concept watch, the Zagato Lab One Concept, following the Mille Miglia Zagato editions in 2013 and 2019. Produced in a series of just 19 pieces - referencing Zagato’s founding date of 19 April 1919 - the new ultra-light timepiece has been developed from Ceramicised Titanium and combines Zagato’s automotive-inspired design with Chopard’s high-watchmaking expertise.

The Zagato Lab One Concept (Ref. 168636-3001) is the lightest Titanium watch ever made by Chopard, weighing 43.20 grams including the strap and 36.5 grams without it. The watch is housed in a 42 mm x 11.15 mm case made entirely of Ceramicised Titanium, an advanced material created by oxidising Titanium through electroplasma technology. This process gives the metal a hardness of around 1,000 Vickers, with shock and scratch resistance comparable to ceramic, while retaining Titanium’s lightness. The material also provides a permanent anthracite-grey colour. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres.

The design draws directly from Zagato’s automotive heritage, particularly its use of tubular chassis structures. Instead of traditional lugs, the watch features open tubular loops that allow the strap to pivot by approximately 45 degrees on each side, offering enhanced comfort and wrist fit. The crown takes cues from automotive differential gears and is engraved with a steering wheel motif, a signature of Chopard’s Classic Racing design language.

The movement, hand-wound L.U.C calibre 04.04-L, also serves as the dial and is adorned with Zagato’s recurring “Z” motif in positive relief, with chamfers highlighted by a rhodium-plated finish. Rhodium-plated Chopard and Zagato logos appear in relief, while openworked hour and minute hands are shaped to resemble racing car steering wheels. The power-reserve indicator at 12 o’clock is styled like a fuel gauge. Shaped as the spokes of a steering wheel, a one-minute tourbillon housed in an aluminium carriage lies at 6 o’clock, combined with a small seconds display. Much like systems used in automotive engineering, the calibre incorporates silent blocks and elastomer elements to absorb vibrations and impacts. Additional stability is provided by four lever arms integrated into the caseband. Both the front and back of the case are fitted with box-shaped anti-reflective sapphire crystals, providing a clear view of the dial and movement.

This movement is an evolution of the brand’s Engine One Tourbillon calibre introduced in 2010. For the first time, its bridges and mainplate are made from Ceramicised tTitanium instead of Nickel Silver, contributing to reduced weight and increased durability. The movement consists of 207 components and operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz). It offers a power reserve of approximately 60 hours and is chronometer-certified by the COSC.
The watch is delivered with two straps - a fabric strap with a hook-and-loop fastening system and a Ceramicised Titanium loop, or a calfskin leather strap with an engraved pin buckle.
The Chopard Zagato Lab One Concept is priced at approx. INR 1,51,10,000.
