Vacheron Constantin’s 270th anniversary celebrations continue with a new one-of-a-kind timepiece - the Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface combines an unconventional trio of complications: a split-seconds chronograph, a minute repeater, and a tourbillon regulator with a spherical hairspring.
Crafted entirely by a single watchmaker, the timepiece showcases an intricate movement composed of nearly 700 components - a scale more commonly associated with pocket watches. Housed in a 45 mm x 16.4 mm 18K pink gold case capped with sapphire crystal on both sides, the timepiece allows a full view of its complexity. The openworked dial features suspended sapphire crystal counters framed in gold, which contrast with the intricate movement beneath. The display is asymmetrically arranged - hours and minutes at 9 o’clock, a 30-minute chronograph counter at 2 o’clock, and a tourbillon with small seconds at 6 o’clock. The tourbillon cage is shaped like the brand’s logo, the Maltese cross. Coloured in green, the minute track and chronograph hands stand out. The pusher at 2 o’clock controls the chronograph’s start, stop, and reset functions; another at 4 o’clock manages the split-seconds feature; and a slider on the left case side activates the minute repeater.
While Vacheron Constantin first experimented with this combination of complications in 2022 using the calibre 2757, this new edition reintroduces the same movement - now revealed in a more detailed openworked design - presenting the calibre 2757 S. To enhance efficiency and reduce weight, the movement incorporates new materials. Titanium is used for some gear train wheels, while the split-seconds lever and its insulator are made from silicon, eliminating the need for lubrication. The chronograph’s two central seconds hands are made of lightweight yet rigid aluminium. The movement runs at a frequency of 2.5 Hz and offers a 50-hour power reserve, even with the chronograph engaged.
The chronograph runs at a precision of 1/5th of a second, driven by two separate column wheels - one for the chronograph and one for the split-seconds function. The minute repeater features a flying strike governor that regulates the chimes without background noise, ensuring a clean and elegant sound. Meanwhile, the tourbillon’s spherical hairspring improves isochronism, expanding and contracting concentrically for consistent timekeeping. The movement components are decorated with finishing such as bevelled, polished, satin-finished, grained, engraved, and beadblasted surfaces. The bridges and mainplate are treated with a black NAC coating. The reverse side reveals the gongs and hammers, a power reserve indicator, and the engraved striking governor with the initials JMV, honouring the founder Jean-Marc Vacheron.
The Les Cabinotiers Temporis Duo Grand Complication Openface is completed with a green alligator leather strap with a pink gold folding clasp styled in Vacheron’s half Maltese cross.
What we think -
One hit after another for their 270th Anniversary, especially with their stupendous showing at Watches and Wonders 2025, how about we simply call this the year of Vacheron Constantin! They have firmly reclaimed their position in the Holy Trinity and hopefully their misguided attempts at trying to play the sports watch game are a thing of the past.
