At Geneva Watch Days 2025, Ulysse Nardin has presented a new addition to its iconic Freak line—the Freak X Crystalium once again demonstrates the brand’s expertise in mechanics, materials, and design.
The 43 mm case is made entirely from black DLC-coated titanium, including the bezel, caseback, and side parts. Protected by a sapphire crystal, housed inside is a dial featuring a shimmering Crystalium hour disc. Made from ruthenium, one of the rarest metals in the platinum group, the disc is created through a vapour-deposition crystallisation process that takes several days. As the metal solidifies, it forms intricate, frost-like crystalline patterns that can never be replicated, meaning that each disc is visually unique. The charm of the disc is further enhanced by treating it with rose-gold PVD and hand-applied black shading at the periphery.
Functionally, this rotating disc acts as the hour hand, completing one full revolution every twelve hours. Above it, the bridge carrying the suspended carousel movement components makes a complete revolution every sixty minutes, doubling as the minute hand. This mechanism is powered by the brand’s in-house calibre UN-230, an automatic flying carousel movement built from 214 components. It beats at a frequency of 3 Hz and delivers an autonomy of about 72 hours. The movement integrates Ulysse Nardin’s silicon technology, with a balance wheel, escapement, and hairspring all crafted from this antimagnetic, lightweight material, developed in the brand’s SIGATEC laboratory.
The watch is delivered on a ballistic-textured black rubber strap with rose-gold stitching (Ref. 2303-270-4A/3A), secured by a folding clasp made of DLC-coated titanium and black ceramic. An alternative strap in black alligator leather (Ref. 2303-270-4A/1A) with the same rose-gold stitching is also available. The watch is water-resistant to 50 metres.
Limited to just 50 pieces, the Ulysse Nardin Freak X Crystalium is priced at approx. INR 44,15,000.
