Ulysse Nardin’s new Freak X Gold Enamel (Ref. 2305-270LE-3AE-BLUE/1A), part of the brand’s iconic Freak collection, brings together 17th-century craftsmanship and 21st-century innovation. Known for breaking conventions since its debut in 2001, the Freak series has always pushed boundaries—introducing silicon components and doing away with traditional hands and crowns. The Freak X, introduced in 2019, made this groundbreaking design more approachable, adding a conventional crown while preserving its core identity.
The Freak X Gold Enamel raises the bar again. The 43 mm timepiece features a guilloché mainplate finished with intricate deep blue enamel work, beneath the carousel movement. Crafted in blue PVD-coated titanium and 5N rose gold, the case offers a mix of textures including sandblasted, satin, and polished finishes.
At the heart of the timepiece is the brand’s signature flying carousel movement, which rotates around the centre of the watch to display the time. The bridge points to the minutes, while the rotating gear indicates the hour—both treated with Super-LumiNova for low-light visibility. The design also includes an oversized silicon balance wheel.
The watch is powered by the in-house automatic calibre UN-230, which beats at 3 Hz and offers a 72-hour power reserve. Key parts of the movement, including the oversized silicon balance wheel, escapement wheel, balance spring, and anchor, are crafted from wear-free silicon such that it does not require lubrication. To enhance stability, nickel flyweights and micro-blades are attached to the rotating mechanism.
Completing the Freak X Gold Enamel is a blue alligator leather strap with rose gold stitching, fastened by a folding clasp in rose gold and blue PVD titanium.
Limited to just 120 pieces, the watch is priced at approx. INR 41,60,000.
What we think -
The Freak has long been a symbol of watchmaking superiority. Combine that with Gold we surely have a winner on our hands. Ulysse Nardin seems to be doing everything right.
