All the watch news, reviews, videos you want, brought to you from fellow collectors
MB&F has unveiled its most compact and understated timepiece to date - the Special Project One (SP One), a reimagined dress watch from a brand renowned for its bold horological machines. Housed in a 38mm case with a thickness of just 12mm, the SP One marks a significant departure from MB&F’s typical design language. It is available in either 18K rose gold or platinum 950.
The distinct case embraces a minimalist design, defined by its smooth, pebble-like shape that appears to float within a frame of detached lugs anchored to the caseback. A single crown at 10 o'clock complements the unconventional design. The transparent case, made of dual anti-reflective sapphire crystals, offers an unobstructed view of the intricate mechanics from both the front and back.
At the heart of the watch lies the hand-wound SP One calibre, developed in-house by MB&F, delivering a 72-hour power reserve. The movement’s striking architecture features three floating elements—the barrel, balance wheel, and time display—linked by a three-spoked central bridge. Positioned at 6 o’clock, the small time dial features a black DLC sunray-brushed finish with applied hour numerals and skeletonised hands, finished with a contrasting tremblage texture for enhanced legibility. The calibre is completed with hand-applied anglage, gold chatons, and an impressive multi-level construction.
Adding a subtle splash of colour, the bevelled internal flange is finished in sky blue for the platinum version and anthracite for the rose gold model. The timepiece is water-resistant to 30 metres and paired with a refined calfskin strap.
The rose gold edition is priced at approximately INR 64,95,000, while the platinum model is marked at around INR 70,10,000.
