Seiko adds new vintage-inspired models to the Prospex Speedtimer line

Seiko has expanded its Prospex Speedtimer line for 2025 with two new continuous-production models, the SPB513 and SPB515. Inspired by the original 1972 Speedtimer, both models merge vintage design with practical timing functions. Released alongside the limited-edition Datsun-themed SPB517—powered by Calibre 6R55 and featuring red and blue accents mirroring the Datsun logo—these releases pay tribute to Seiko’s motorsport heritage and its historical ties to Japanese carmaker Datsun, a partnership dating back to the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The new Speedtimer models retain the balanced proportions of the 1972 Speedtimer, featuring a 39.5 mm stainless steel case with 12 mm thickness, treated with Seiko’s super-hard coating for enhanced scratch resistance. The watches combine an inner rotating countdown bezel operated via an additional crown at 4 o’clock, allowing for precise measurement of key time intervals. This function mirrors the compass bezel found on the Prospex Alpinist but is adapted here for timing purposes. Adding to the functionality, both watches are water-resistant up to 200 metres.

The SPB513 features a silver-white dial, while the SPB515 comes with a black dial, both designed for maximum legibility. Topped with a curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the dial is completed with applied indices, precise minute printing, and a luminous coating on hands and markers to aid visibility in low light. The inner countdown scale highlights the last 15 minutes in orange, complemented by an orange-tipped central seconds hand. A tiny round date display sits at 4:30, with a colour-matched date disc.

Under the screw-down caseback, Seiko’s in-house automatic Calibre 6R55 powers the timepieces. The movement operates at a 3 Hz frequency with a power reserve of about 72 hours. The movement also offers magnetic resistance of 4,800 A/m.

Each watch is fitted with a vintage-style multi-row stainless steel bracelet, secured by a three-fold clasp with push-button release. Available from September 2025, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SPB513 and SPB515 are priced at approx. INR 1,02,000.
