All the watch news, reviews, videos you want, brought to you from fellow collectors

Two months ago Raymond Weil expanded its catalogue with a vintage-inspired dress watch collection, the Toccata Heritage. The line followed the success of the brand’s Millesime collection under the leadership of third-generation CEO Elie Bernheim. The refined collection appeared in an elegant ellipse shape with silver, blue, or copper-coloured dials, and is now reworked by contemporary designer Romaric André, known as seconde/seconde. The result is a dress watch, Toccata Heritage x seconde/seconde, that keeps traditional proportions while adding a generous dose of humour to long-standing etiquette debates.

Measuring 33 mm x 38 mm and just 6.95 mm in thickness, the elliptical stainless-steel case is completed with a shaped sapphire crystal and a knurled pull-out crown. The dimensions maintain the understated appeal of a dress watch, but the dial transforms it into a fun element. Its surface is cleanly divided into two halves with a different texture of anthracite grey. On the left, a matte finish carries a bold yellow instruction, “Dress Shirt Cuff Should Cover at Least Half of the Watch”, illustrated by a yellow line pointing to the midline. On the right, the sunray finish proposes four additional cuff interpretations - from a central “sweet spot” to “biz casual”, “semi-formal”, and a narrow “formal” reveal.

The indices follow this split personality. Full markers and a complete minute track appear only on the sunray side, while the darker half displays faint, almost disappearing indices at 6, 7, 11, and 12 o’clock, mirroring the idea of a watch partially hidden beneath a sleeve. Even the customary “Swiss Made” inscription appears on the 3 o’clock marker, making it the most visible on the dial.

Turn the watch over, and the closed steel back continues the theme with a yellow inscription, “THE DRESS WATCH CODE”, and guidance for aspiring connoisseurs, “Never wind your watch while wearing it. Take it off first, then wind it in a dramatic fashion (ideally in the middle of a conversation).”
Beneath the caseback sits the slim hand-wound calibre RW4100, based on the Sellita SW210-1B. At 3.35 mm thick, the movement keeps the watch’s profile sleek and delivers a 45-hour power reserve and a stable 28,800 vph (4 Hz) beat for its two central functions, hours and minutes.

The watch offers 30-metre water resistance and comes flanked with a black calfskin strap embossed to resemble alligator leather, completed with a steel pin buckle.
The limited-edition Raymond Weil Toccata Heritage x seconde/seconde (Ref. 2280-STC-SEC01) is priced at INR 1,90,000, and is limited to only 50 pieces.
What we think -
Hands down one of the best seconde/seconde collaborations! Also heartening to see is Raymond Weil getting its due share of fame and recognition for the good work they do in the entry level segment.
