Panerai has unveiled the Luminor Marina Militare PAM05218, a modern revival of the reference that marked the brand’s shift from a supplier of military instruments to a global name in watchmaking. The new model draws directly from the Luminor Marina Militare Ref. 5218-202/A, which debuted on September 10, 1993, as Panerai’s first Luminor for the civilian market.

Like its predecessor, the PAM05218 comes in a 44 mm case - a size that once stood apart from the 47 mm military Panerai watches. This time, the stainless-steel case has been finished with a DLC coating, echoing the look of the original’s PVD treatment while ensuring durability and a contemporary edge. Water resistance remains robust at 300 metres, staying true to Panerai’s tool-watch roots.
The black dial features a monolayer construction with hollowed engravings filled with Super-LumiNova, unlike the brand’s usual sandwich dials, complemented by typography that matches the 1993 model.

It carries the Marina Militare inscription, a reminder of Panerai’s partnership with the Italian Navy that began in the 1910s. Its font has been carefully redrawn to replicate the original reference. One of the quirks of the 1993 model - the so-called “non-matching” dial and hands - has also been recreated. The early references featured numerals and hands in different tones due to a chemical reaction between tritium and varnish, which caused the numerals to age into a warm orange-brown while the hands stayed green. This contrast made those models highly collectable. For the new edition, Panerai has replicated the effect using caramel-toned Super-LumiNova on the dial and a lighter shade on the hands.

Powering the watch is the hand-wound P.6000 calibre, which beats at 3 Hz and delivers a 3-day autonomy. The movement is enclosed inside a screw-down engraved caseback featuring the Officine Panerai Firenze signature and the “OP” logo.

The timepiece is paired with a golden-brown calf leather strap stitched in vintage style and secured by a black DLC steel trapezoidal buckle - a detail that recalls the strap of the 1993 model. A second black rubber strap with an additional buckle is also included for versatility.
The Panerai Luminor Marina Militare PAM05218 is priced at approx. INR 7,85,000.
