Swiss watchmaker Oris has partnered with the Billion Oyster Project since 2022, when it released a limited-edition watch to help advance the nonprofit’s mission of restoring oyster reefs in the New York Harbor. The collaboration continues into 2025 with the launch of the second Oris Aquis Date New York Harbor Limited Edition II. Proceeds from the 2,000-piece limited-edition watch will help fund this ambitious environmental project to revive the once-flourishing marine ecosystem.
The Billion Oyster Project has already reintroduced more than 150 million oysters to the harbor, providing natural water filtration and habitats for marine life. Each adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water per day, serving as natural storm barriers, similar to trees in a forest, protecting both marine and human communities. The ecological impact is immense. Oris’s collaboration highlights not only conservation but also education and community engagement, supporting thousands of students and volunteers across New York.
Oris Co-CEO Rolf Studer states: “The ecological challenge can feel overwhelming. But when we work together, it gets easier. We’re proud to collaborate again with Billion Oyster Project and to witness firsthand the change we’re bringing together. Our mission continues.”
The New York Harbor Limited Edition II is based on Oris’s best-selling tool watch, the Aquis Date. The 43.5 mm stainless steel case is water-resistant to 300 metres and features a multi-piece construction. Its unidirectional rotating bezel is fitted with a stainless steel insert and raised relief minutes scale. The case measures 13.1 mm in thickness and 51 mm lug-to-lug. On the reverse, the screw-down stainless steel caseback is engraved with oyster motifs commemorating the project.
The dial is a vibrant aqua green mother-of-pearl, radiating the iridescence of oyster shells. Depending on the light, it reveals a spectrum of tones reminiscent of harbor waters. Applied hands and indices filled with Super-LumiNova®, along with a date window at 6 o’clock, complete the dial.
Driving the timepiece is the Oris Calibre 733, an automatic movement based on the Sellita SW200-1. It powers central hours, minutes, and seconds, with a quick-set date and hacking seconds for precise time-setting. The calibre offers a 41-hour power reserve and runs at a frequency of 4 Hz.
The Oris Aquis Date New York Harbor Limited Edition II is priced at approx. ₹2,76,000, delivered on a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp. To reinforce the aquatic theme, Oris also includes an aqua green rubber strap with its own stainless steel folding clasp.
What we think -
Yet another fantastic collaboration watch released by Oris. In the world of independent watchmaking there are only a handful of motivated brands that do their bit for the world, and Oris proudly sits at the top of that list. The watches they make are no slouches either so more props to them.
