Continuing its commitment to sustainability, Oris has announced a new conservation partnership and a dedicated timepiece to support the protection of the Yangtze finless porpoise, one of the world’s most endangered aquatic mammals. Created in collaboration with China’s Changjiang Conservation Foundation (CCF), the Yangtze Jiangtun Limited Edition reinforces the brand’s long-standing focus on wildlife conservation. The Yangtze finless porpoise, locally known as jiangtun, is endemic to the Yangtze River and is China’s last remaining freshwater cetacean. A 2022 survey estimates a population of just 1,249 individuals. Proceeds from the sale of this timepiece will be used to raise awareness and support ongoing research and habitat protection efforts. Previously, the brand has introduced several sustainability-focused timepieces, including the Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition, Okavango Air Rescue Limited Edition, and Aquis X Bracenet, among others.

The watch is based on the Oris Aquis Date 43.50 mm professional diver platform and is produced as a limited series of 1,249 pieces, a number that directly reflects the estimated remaining porpoise population.

The centrepiece of the design is a blue-green mother-of-pearl dial inspired by the surface of the Yangtze River. A precise printing technique has been applied to the delicate mother-of-pearl to create a wave-like pattern inspired by the high-frequency ultrasonic clicks the porpoises use for echolocation. Legibility is ensured by hands and hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova®.

Crafted from stainless steel, the 43.50 mm case has a thickness of 13.10 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 51.00 mm. It is fitted with a unidirectional rotating bezel featuring a tungsten insert for enhanced scratch resistance. The watch is equipped with a screw-down stainless steel crown with protective guards and is water-resistant to 300 metres.

Powering the timepiece is the automatic Oris Calibre 733, which drives the central hours, minutes, and seconds, along with an instantaneous date display, date corrector, and stop-seconds function for precise time setting. The movement offers a power reserve of 41 hours.
The watch is paired with a multi-piece stainless steel bracelet secured by a folding clasp. The solid stainless steel caseback is engraved with an image of the Yangtze finless porpoise, along with the individual limited-edition number.
The Oris Yangtze Jiangtun Limited Edition is priced at approximately INR 2,95,000.
