Following the sell-out success of its previous subscription timepieces, watch publication MONOCHROME has unveiled its fifth Montre de Souscription (MdS 5), this time in collaboration with Angelus. The new 20-piece limited edition, named the MONOCHROME Montre de Souscription 5 Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre, follows the sequence of earlier releases, beginning with Montre de Souscription 1, a salmon-toned sector-dial chronograph based on the Habring² Chrono-Felix, followed by Montre de Souscription 2, a MONOCHROME white reinterpretation of the Czapek Antarctique; Montre de Souscription 3, a discreet and classically styled take on the Armin Strom Gravity Equal Force; and Montre de Souscription 4 Seconde Morte, created in partnership with Habring².

The timepiece comes in a 37 mm stainless steel case with a thickness of 9.25 mm, deriving its proportions from 1950s Angelus chronographs. The lugs are long and slender, and the chronograph is fully integrated into the crown. Reinforcing its vintage character, a box-shaped sapphire crystal protects the dial.

While the watch shares its basic case architecture with the Angelus Chronographe Télémètre, MONOCHROME has introduced several modifications. Most notably, the telemeter scale has been replaced with a tachymeter. The scale is rendered in a vintage-inspired snailed format, graduated from 500 to 30 units and arranged in a double coil, a rare detail in modern watchmaking.

The dial further distinguishes the MdS 5 from the standard Angelus catalogue. MONOCHROME opted for a pale 2N gold-coloured matte dial inspired by mid-century Angelus chronographs. The lightly grained surface is paired with black printed markings, polished applied hour markers, and luminous hands.

Inside, powering this monopusher chronograph is the hand-wound Angelus Calibre A5000. The architecture of this calibre traces its origins back to 1989, when François-Paul Journe, Denis Flageollet, and Vianney Halter collaborated under Techniques Horlogères Appliquées (THA). That partnership produced the calibre 045MC, most famously for powering the Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir released in 1999 as part of the Collection Privée Cartier Paris. Following the closure of THA, the rights were acquired by Manufacture La Joux-Perret, allowing the design to evolve into the modern A5000, updated to meet contemporary technical and reliability standards.

The Calibre A5000 remains faithful to its original version as a thin, compact, manually wound monopusher with a classic column-wheel layout. The movement operates at 3 Hz and delivers a power reserve of approximately 42 hours. Viewed through the sapphire caseback, engraved with an individual edition number, the movement has an open construction, with gears, levers, and springs clearly visible. It is decorated with Geneva stripes, bevelled edges, and circular-grained gold-coloured wheels. For the MdS 5, MONOCHROME selected a version with a 3N gold-finished main plate and bridges, creating a warm contrast with the steel chronograph components.

The timepiece is fitted with a grey nubuck leather strap and is delivered in a presentation box that includes a leather travel pouch.

The Montre de Souscription 5 Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre will be offered exclusively through MONOCHROME’s subscription model. Priced at EUR 18,500 (approx. INR 20,40,000), the timepiece will be available for purchase starting 29 January 2026 at 3:00 PM CET, for a maximum period of ten days or until all 20 pieces are sold.
