In 2023, Ming presented its 29.01 Worldtimer, crafted in titanium with Schwarz Etienne for Ming Cal. ASE220.1 —The timepiece quickly became popular amongst watch enthusiasts. Now, Ming has created its new, darker version, the 29.01 Midnight Worldtimer comes in all its glory when the light goes off.
The 29.01 Midnight Worldtimer comes in a grade 5 titanium case, now coated with black DLC and finished with matte-blasting, the shade that debuted on the Ming 37.09 Uni. The timepiece measures 40 mm in diameter and 11.8 mm in thickness, and goes without a bezel. Topping the case is a box sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. Ming has incorporated its signature ‘flying blade’ lugs, polished and integrated seamlessly into the caseback through an interlocking groove to create a smooth, streamlined appeal.
The time of various places is read via an adjustable and rotating metal base dial bearing a 24-hour scale, topped with a static sapphire dial with the names of the world cities. The base dial rotates as the hour progresses and is read against the sapphire dial. For exceptional legibility in the dark, the hour markers, sapphire hands, as well as the city ring, are filled with HyCeram ceramic Super-LumiNova X1 and the 24-hour scale is printed with Super-LumiNova X1, with orange numerals that also glow orange.
The 29.01 Midnight Worldtimer is powered by the automatic calibre ASE 222, created by Schwarz-Etienne for Ming. The bidirectional winding movement is equipped with a redesigned tungsten micro-rotor, and offers an 86-hour power reserve. The ball bearings help reduce friction for a smooth operation. The 5N rose gold bridges and plates are accentuated with diamond-cut anglage, while the skeletonised barrel adds to its beauty while also giving a view of the remaining power reserve.
The timepiece is flanked by a black moulded FKM rubber strap complete with curved quick-release bars and a DLC ‘flying blade’ tuck buckle with micro-adjustment. An additional strap of the customer’s choice also comes with the purchase.
Limited to just 25 pieces, the 29.01 Midnight Worldtimer is priced at approximately INR 22,43,000.
What we think -
Ming is here to stay, whatever the detractors may say. Their new DLC coated Worldtimer is yet another winner from the brand that has attained a cult like status.
