Ming has returned with a stealthy new twist on its renowned entry-level series with the launch of the 37.02 Monolith—a darker, more enigmatic evolution of the 37.02. Limited to just 100 pieces annually, the timepiece builds on the success of the original 37.02 Minimalist and the 37.02 Ghost, retaining the same core architecture but with a more dramatic aesthetic.
The 37.02 Monolith is offered in a matte and brushed anthracite DLC-coated stainless steel case, with a light-absorbing finish, making the watch appear even slimmer and more compact. The actual proportions measure 38 mm in diameter, 11 mm in thickness, and 44.5 mm in length between its signature pagoda-style lugs. A large, notched crown with double gaskets supports a 100-metre water resistance, and both the front and back are protected by double-domed sapphire crystals with anti-reflective coatings on both sides.
The timepiece houses a sapphire dial that changes with the light, and it is complemented by the brand’s hand-filled proprietary Polar White luminous material, prepared by Ming Thein himself in Kuala Lumpur, which fills the laser-cut channels of the chapter ring. It’s one of the few lume compounds in the world that glows white rather than green or blue. For contrast, the hour and minute hands are filled with blue-glowing Super-LumiNova X1. MING has kept its branding minimal, with only a discreet “MING” at 6 o’clock.
Driving the timepiece is a customised automatic Sellita SW300-1 movement, skeletonised and finished in anthracite. It beats at a 4 Hz frequency and offers a 45-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire caseback, the movement features openworked bridges and rotor, continuing the watch’s dark and modern theme.
Adding a pop of contrast and colour to the overall stealth look is the mango-orange FKM rubber strap, secured by an anthracite DLC-coated tuck buckle. It is priced at approximately INR 3,75,000.
