To mark the opening of its new state-of-the-art dial manufactory in Glashütte, Germany, Glashütte Original has unveiled the PanoLunarTourbillon (Ref. 1-93-03-01-03-61)—this exclusive timepiece is the first to be created in the new facility and will be offered in just 50 individually numbered pieces.
This exclusive timepiece features a 40 mm platinum case, and its most captivating element is the unique rosé-coloured dial inspired by the iron-rich soil of the region, which has a reddish hue. Created using a complex galvanic process, the dial reacts beautifully to light and movement, exuding the brand’s exceptional dial-making skills.
Three complications take centre stage—a flying tourbillon, a panorama date, and a moon phase. The off-centre time display on the left side of the dial is balanced by the flying tourbillon at 7 o’clock, which completes a full rotation every 60 seconds while indicating the seconds. First developed in 1920 by Glashütte master watchmaker Alfred Helwig, the flying tourbillon remains one of the region’s most important horological innovations.
The Panorama Date is positioned at 4 o’clock and uses two concentric discs to display the date without a dividing bar—a signature of the brand since 1997. At 2 o’clock, the moon phase is shown against a deep blue sky with a golden moon and hand-applied silver stars.
Powering the PanoLunarTourbillon is the in-house automatic Calibre 93-03, with a 60-hour power reserve. It features a silicon balance spring that offers strong resistance to magnetic fields. The movement is beautifully executed with rhodium-plated bridges decorated with Glashütte stripe finish, perlage on the main plate, and a polished tourbillon cage. All of this can be admired through the sapphire crystal caseback.
The watch is water-resistant up to 50 metres and is paired with a dark blue Louisiana alligator leather strap, as well as an additional blue synthetic strap. Both straps are fitted with a platinum folding clasp. It is priced at approx. INR 1,10,00,000.
What we think -
Such a pity that this sublime German watchmaking brand is not available in India. For a watchmaker celebrating their 180th Anniversary they have set the bar very high, as always, and their execution of off-center timetelling is supremely beautiful to look at.
