Girard-Perregaux, in collaboration with Bamford Watch Department, has resurrected its Deep Diver Ref. 9108 timepiece from 1969, which stood out for its Gyromatic system. The new Deep Diver joins Girard-Perregaux’s Legacy Edition series and is a limited edition of 350 pieces.
Staying true to the original’s design, the new Deep Diver (Ref. 39500-21-3266-6CX) features a cushion-shaped titanium case, measuring 40.30 mm x 38 mm x 13.91 mm. The novelty retains the dual crowns at 2 and 4 o’clock—the former controls the inner rotating bezel, while the latter adjusts time and date functions. The case is finished with satin-brushed and polished surfaces and a multi-faceted bezel.
Capped by a sapphire crystal, the dial remains faithful to the original 1969 layout, now with modernised touches. The centre of the dial is coloured in a striking orange. The rectangular indices and hands are filled with bright orange Super-LumiNova (replacing the original green tritium), while the numerals on the blue minute track maintain the retro character. A date window lies at 3 o’clock, and the Girard-Perregaux logo below 12 o’clock is accompanied by the Bamford signature above 6 o’clock.
Turn the watch over and you’ll see the solid titanium caseback engraved with the blue metallised Deep Diver trident logo. Inside beats the in-house automatic calibre GP03300-2476, which runs at 4 Hz and offers a 46-hour power reserve. The movement features an 18k pink gold rotor and is adorned with decorations such as chamfering, circular graining, Côtes de Genève, engravings, mirror-polishing, satin finish, snailing, and sunray finish.
Flanking the timepiece is a blue rubber strap with a titanium pin buckle, and it includes an additional orange strap to match the vibrant dial accents.
Available now, the Girard-Perregaux Deep Diver Legacy Edition is priced at approx. INR 14,80,000.
What we think -
These are the kind of worthwhile collaborations the industry needs more of. Pure 70s nostalgia in a contemporary package, a legacy watch brand pairing up with a customizer of some repute, what more can we ask for!
