All the watch news, reviews, videos you want, brought to you from fellow collectors
In 2022, the young Formex brand introduced its first military-inspired timepiece - the Field Automatic. With its 41 mm case and vintage aesthetic, it offered a modern yet affordable field watch option. Now, refining this rugged and popular line, the Swiss-based brand returns with the Field Automatic Gen 2 collection.
The new models come in a slightly more compact 40 mm grade 2 titanium case with a sandblasted matte finish. To boost durability, Formex applies a proprietary hardening treatment that increases the surface hardness to 900 HV. Over time, the case develops a distinctive patina, creating a “living” finish that reflects each wearer’s journey. The timepieces are shock-resistant and water-resistant to 150 metres.
Available in three dial colours—Ice Blue reflects open skies and crystalline waters, Coho Salmon recalls the warmth of sunset hues, and Basalt Grey evokes the grit and texture of urban landscapes. Each dial features a dual-component construction, pairing a flat sunburst-finished central disc with a sloped minute track and a stencil-style chapter ring. Recessed, sandwich-style numerals are filled with colour-matched Super-LumiNova®. A date window with a coordinated date disc completes the balanced design.
Powering the Field Automatic Gen 2 models is the Swiss-made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement, which beats at 4 Hz and delivers a 41-hour power reserve.
The watches are delivered with easily interchangeable nylon-Velcro straps—available in black, blue, and khaki green—equipped with a Quick Release system. For more versatility, Formex also offers Bolgheri leather straps in black, brown, blue, and violet, each paired with a carbon deployant clasp featuring the brand’s patented 7 mm on-the-fly fine-adjustment system.
Prices for the Field Automatic Gen 2 collection start at ₹82,600 with nylon straps and around ₹95,600 for the leather strap options with patented micro-adjust deployant clasps.
What we think -
Formex turns 25 years old in 2025 and they are pulling out all the stops to bring tremendous releases of their ever popular, beautiful, and functional watches. The new, slightly smaller, iteration of the field Automatic plays nicely with fresh colors and imparts terrific value for money. If only the brand were officially available in India.
