Lucerne-based watch brand Chronoswiss has unveiled two new timepieces inspired by the cosmos. The Lunar Chronograph Aurora revives one of the brand’s signature complications on a vibrant dial inspired by the northern lights. The Space Timer Gravity is a limited edition that expands on the celestial theme by keeping at its centre a laser-engraved moon based on an authentic NASA space image.

The Lunar Chronograph Aurora has been built on the first model introduced in 1999, which featured a 41 mm × 15 mm stainless steel case and combined chronograph, moonphase, and date functions in a balanced layout. The case architecture is completed with a satin-finished middle, a polished, partially knurled bezel, and an onion crown. Water resistance is rated to 100 metres.

Topped by a curved anti-reflective sapphire crystal, the dial is guillochéd and treated with a colour-shifting CVD coating that transitions between deep green and blue tones depending on light conditions, taking cues from the northern lights. The displays include central hours and minutes, small seconds at 9 o’clock, a central chronograph seconds hand, 30-minute and 12-hour counters at 12 and 6 o’clock respectively, a moonphase aperture at 3 o’clock, and an analogue date indicated around the dial’s periphery. The white lacquered Breguet Losange steel hands create contrast against the striking coloured dial while allowing easy readability.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the Aurora is powered by the automatic Chronoswiss calibre C.755. The movement operates at 4 Hz (28,800 vph) and delivers approximately 46 hours of power reserve. It features a Glucydur three-legged balance, a Nivarox 1 balance spring, Incabloc shock protection, and fine adjustment via eccentric screws. It is further finished with a skeletonised and rhodium-plated rotor with Côtes de Genève, perlage on bridges and plates, and polished pallet lever, escape wheel, and screws.
The watch is fitted with a dark grey nubuck leather strap secured with screwed strap bars using the patented Autobloc system, which helps ensure it stays securely attached to the lugs, preventing accidental loss or damage to the watch.

Limited to 50 pieces, the Space Timer Gravity adopts a more architectural approach within a larger 44 mm matte grey-finished stainless steel case. The 17-piece case includes partial knurling, a curved double anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a screw-down sapphire caseback, an onion crown, and screwed strap holders with the Autobloc system. Water resistance is also 100 metres.

The highlight of the watch, the dial, features a complex 63-part construction combining partial hand guilloché and laser engraving. A NASA-based moon image is recreated through advanced laser engraving to produce a textured lunar surface at 6 o’clock. Transparent hour and date rings made from polished ITR2 composite material appear to float above the dial, while exposed gear train elements are framed by skeletonised and finished bridges. Super-LumiNova and ceramic composite cylinders serve as minute indicators at the dial’s periphery, while 0.6 mm stainless steel balls mounted around the moon on ITR2 indicate the date. A thermally coloured titanium hemisphere with Super-LumiNova functions as the moon and star indicator. The display is completed with off-centre hours at 12 o’clock with an open gear mechanism, central minutes and seconds, and rhodium-plated, Super-LumiNova-filled feuille-shaped hands.

The Space Timer Gravity is powered by the automatic Chronoswiss calibre C.308. It also runs at a frequency of 4 Hz, offers about 42 hours of power reserve, and incorporates Incabloc shock protection. The movement is decorated with perlage on bridges and plates, polished escapement components, and a skeletonised rotor with Côtes de Genève decoration mounted on ball bearings. The model is delivered on a grey nubuck leather strap.
