A. Lange & Söhne has introduced the newest version of its Zeitwerk Date, now crafted in an elegant 18K pink gold case. The warm hue of the case is balanced with a grey solid silver dial, which is a refined evolution of the Zeitwerk first launched in 2009. Known for its purely mechanical digital time display, the Zeitwerk broke with traditional hand-and-dial formats by featuring large, jumping numerals for the hours and minutes, powered by a constant-force escapement that ensures precise and energy-balanced switching every 60 seconds. The Zeitwerk Date, first released in 2019 to mark the 10th anniversary of the collection, added an integrated glass date ring on the periphery of the dial.
The case, in Lange’s proprietary pink gold alloy, measures 44.2mm in diameter and 12.3mm in thickness, with a curved profile and short lugs. The polished bezel contrasts elegantly with the brushed flanks, highlighting Lange’s signature finishing. An anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the front. The watch is water-resistant to 30 metres.
On the grey dial, the two oversized windows at 9 and 3 o’clock display the jumping hours and minutes, framed by a time bridge crafted in untreated German silver and plated with rhodium. This bridge is not merely decorative but part of the movement’s top plate, linking the two time display windows with the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. At 12 o’clock, a power reserve indicator is seamlessly integrated into the symmetry. The hands for the power reserve and small seconds are also made in pink gold. A red marker beneath the date ring highlights the current date. The watch features a crown at 2 o’clock for winding and time-setting, as well as pushers at 4 and 8 o’clock that allow the hour and date displays to be advanced independently, a thoughtful design that ensures ease of use without affecting the running time.
Under the hood is Lange’s manually wound calibre L043.8, made of 516 components. Besides the constant-force escapement with a fly governor, which controls the precise switching of the discs, the twin mainspring barrels deliver an impressive 72-hour power reserve, while the calibre beats at a 2.5 Hz frequency. The movement is adorned with German silver plates, a hand-engraved balance cock, polished bevels, blued screws, two screwed gold chatons, and a ratchet wheel with solarisation and engraved branding—all visible through the sapphire caseback.
The strap is hand-stitched dark brown alligator leather, secured by a pink gold prong buckle that matches the case. The A. Lange & Söhne Zeitwerk Date in pink gold (Ref. 148.033) is priced at approximately INR 1,32,00,000.
What we think -
Sublime watchmaking, unique time telling, and great respect are what the new Zeitwerk in Rose Gold brings. The one ALS watch that deserved the full Rose Gold treatment is finally here. But will it be available to buyers and fans of the brand? Let’s see.
