Ressence unveils Type 8 “Inside Out” Daniel Engelberg

Ressence has never failed to captivate with its unconventional yet outstanding design philosophy. Since the launch of the Type 1, the brand has been committed to its signature orbital display—a hands-free, rotating layout that communicates time through discs. The Type 8, the brand’s most pared-back model, reduces the concept to just a central minutes display and an hour sub-dial. This clean, circular aesthetic became the canvas for the artwork of the German sculptor and painter Daniel Engelberg—the new Type 8 “Inside Out” comes in two quirky limited edition iterations.

Engelberg’s “Inside Out” works are defined by concentric rings and colour gradients radiating from a black centre. His work involves milling wood pieces, painting them with bright acrylics, and sealing them under glossy epoxy resin. For the Ressence Type 8 Daniel Engelberg editions, the artist’s visual motifs are engraved directly onto the convex grade 5 titanium dials, then filled with layered gradients of blue, creating a depth effect. The hour sub-dial at the centre always stays in motion, and the laser-engraved indicators are filled with Grade A Super-LumiNova.

The timepiece comes in two colourways—the Type 8.1 DE1 features pink accents, while the Type 8.1 DE2 opts for a cooler palette of blue-green. The watch itself is 42.9 mm and crafted from polished grade 5 titanium, topped with a domed sapphire crystal. It features a crownless design, making it appear even more compact on the wrist. All adjustments and winding are handled via a rotating titanium caseback. The watch is water-resistant only to a depth of 10 metres.

ROCS 8 (Ressence Orbital Convex System), a patented display module mounted on an automatic ETA 2892 base calibre, drives the watches. This setup enables the smooth orbital movement of the time display. The system operates at a frequency of 4 Hz with an autonomy of about 36 hours.

Both iterations are limited to just 40 pieces each and are paired with matching rubber straps. The Ressence Type 8 Daniel Engelberg is priced at approximately INR 20,50,000.
