To commemorate the 75th anniversary of Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, the UAE’s luxury watch and jewellery retailer, Ressence has unveiled a special collaborative edition of its TYPE 9 timepiece. Limited to just 20 pieces, the TYPE 9 S75 offers a symbolic tribute to the cultural and geographic essence of the United Arab Emirates.
The dial is filled with real sand collected equally from each of the UAE's seven Emirates. This material integration reflects the nation’s desert landscape, giving the watch a unique texture and visual warmth without compromising the clarity or precision of the display. The sand grains are bonded onto the titanium discs that indicate hours and minutes, appearing in constant motion with Ressence’s signature orbital display system.
The inspiration behind this model draws on the poetic image of time flowing like sand, akin to an hourglass. Ressence founder Benoît Mintiens highlighted this connection, describing the TYPE 9 S75 as standing "at the crossroads between the ancient hourglass, the organic dome of the dial echoing the texture of dunes, and the regional origin of the piece." Mintiens and Ahmed Seddiqi CEO Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi personally ventured into the desert to collect the sand for the dials.
This symbolic timepiece is created in a compact 39 mm polished Grade 5 titanium case. The Grade 5 titanium dial features engraved hour and minute markers filled with green Grade A Super‑LumiNova®. A hallmark of the brand, all displays operate on a system of eccentric satellites rotating on inclined jewel bearings. The time is adjusted via a rotating caseback, eliminating the need for a traditional crown and maintaining the streamlined silhouette. The case is topped by an anti-reflective-coated domed sapphire crystal and offers water resistance of up to 10 metres.
True to Ressence’s “Less is More” design ethos, the TYPE 9 S75 displays only the hours and minutes through the Ressence Orbital Convex System (ROCS 9). The in-house developed ROCS module is powered by a customised self‑winding base calibre that operates at 4 Hz and offers a 36‑hour power reserve.
Completing the timepiece is a custom genuine camel leather strap—a nod to regional heritage—secured by a polished titanium ardillon buckle. It is priced at approx. INR 16,40,000.
What we think -
We can only hope and pray that such amazing brands look at the Indian market with a positive attitude and make similarly amazing editions for our watch collectors too.
