Independent watchmaker Ressence has unveiled a new collaboration with menswear retailer The Armoury, resulting in a special edition of the brand’s compact Type 9 model, the Type 9 ARM “Scattering Sun.” The partnership was initiated by The Armoury’s co-founder Mark Cho, who sought a watch suited to tailoring and formal outfits.

Measuring 39 mm in diameter and 11 mm thick, the grade 5 titanium case maintains the brand’s smooth, pebble-like design. It is paired with a salmon dial with a matte sandblasted finish. The Type 9 ARM retains Ressence’s signature Orbital Convex System (ROCS), which eliminates traditional hands and displays time via rotating discs. The minutes are read on the periphery of the dial, while the hours appear on a smaller sub-dial framed by a brushed copper-coloured chapter ring. Both elements revolve continuously, creating a visual effect reminiscent of planetary motion. Its new fluted titanium bezel is both polished and engraved, with 5-minute markings and an inverted triangle at noon filled with green Super-LumiNova. The same luminous material is used for the hands on the hour and minute discs.

The watch is crownless; therefore, the time is set and the movement is wound through the caseback. Inside, the patented ROCS 9 module is driven by the minute axle of a customised ETA 2892/2 automatic movement, running at a 4 Hz frequency with a power reserve of 36 hours. The watch is water-resistant to 10 metres.

The Type 9 ARM is flanked by a chocolate suede strap with a titanium ardillon buckle. A limited edition of 20, the Ressence Type 9 ARM “Scattering Sun” is priced at approx. INR 16,80,000. The watch is available for purchase exclusively through The Armoury’s boutiques in Hong Kong and New York, and through the retailer’s online store.
