Blending serious everyday functionality with a discreet, mischievous twist, Nivada Grenchen has unveiled the Antarctic Erotic, a timepiece that builds on the brand’s celebrated tool watch line first introduced in 1954. The timepiece has arrived ahead of the Watches and Wonders 2026 fair and carries an erotic automaton featuring penguins on the caseback, revealed only while winding. This mechanism, which converts rotational motion into vertical movement, was created by an anonymous independent watchmaker known as “Dr Coldwater,” adding another layer of intrigue to the timepiece.

The Antarctic model gained recognition after being tested during Operation Deep Freeze, making it one of the earliest watches associated with Antarctic expeditions. Penguins, a recurring symbol in expedition imagery, became an emblem of the collection. They originally appeared on vintage casebacks before being reinterpreted here with a playful, animated twist. Beyond the humour, the project carries a meaningful purpose. In partnership with Oceanites, the brand supports the monitoring and protection of a 21,000-strong penguin colony in Antarctica. Through the proceeds of the new Antarctic Erotic watch, the brand aims to contribute to ongoing research and conservation efforts.

The timepiece is built for everyday wear, with a 38 mm stainless steel “Spider Case”, finished with polished and brushed surfaces. It measures 12.45 mm in thickness, 45 mm lug-to-lug, and is water-resistant up to 100 metres.

Offering multiple dial options, the Antarctic Erotic comes in six colour variants – black, brown, eggshell beige, salmon, tuxedo (black & white), and white. The dial remains clean and functional, offering hours, minutes, and seconds, and in the tuxedo version, a date.

Inside, the watch is powered by a modified hand-wound Soprod P054 calibre, specifically adapted to drive the animated caseback while maintaining a clean dial layout, ensuring that the complication remains hidden and does not interfere with everyday usability. It beats at 4 Hz and offers a 42-hour power reserve.

The Nivada Grenchen Antarctic Erotic is offered with multiple strap options, including a Beads of Rice bracelet, flat links bracelet, tropical rubber, and leather straps. It is priced at approx. INR 1,60,000 on leather and approx. INR 1,80,000 on a metal bracelet.
