Honouring Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team driver George Russell, IWC Schaffhausen has created two limited edition Pilot’s watches, a chronograph and an automatic model, made in black zirconium oxide ceramic, a material IWC pioneered in watchmaking in the 1980s for its lightness and scratch resistance, with details in Russell’s signature helmet colour, blue.

IWC’s partnership with the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team goes back to 2013, when the watch maison was appointed as the Official Engineering Partner of Formula One™, and created purpose-driven Pilot’s watches for both the team members and enthusiasts. After debuting in Formula One™ in 2019 and joining the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS team in 2022, Russell secured multiple podium finishes and Grand Prix victories, including a win at the Singapore Grand Prix. Also in 2022, IWC created the Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 Edition Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One™ Team, the first official team watch, featuring a lightweight titanium case and Petronas green accents.

The Pilot’s Watch Chronograph 41 George Russell, Ref. IW389411, is a limited edition of 1,063 pieces and comes in a 41.9 mm case. The crown and pushers are crafted from Ceratanium®, also developed by IWC, which combines the lightness of titanium with ceramic-like hardness. The black dial has printed indices and numerals in Russell’s signature blue, a day and date display, and black hands filled with blue Super-LumiNova®. The chronograph is powered by the automatic manufacture calibre 69380, which operates at 4 Hz with a power reserve of 46 hours.

The Pilot’s Watch Automatic 41 George Russell, Ref. IW328107, is housed in a 41 mm case with the same Ceratanium® crown. Like the chronograph, it features a black dial with blue indices, numerals and Super-LumiNova®-filled hands, and a date display. It is powered by the manufacture calibre 32112 automatic movement, which also beats at 4 Hz and delivers an extended 120-hour power reserve thanks to its double-pawl winding system.

Both models feature hacking seconds, a screw-in crown, a soft-iron inner case for protection against magnetic fields, and a convex sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides. Both are water resistant up to 100 metres. The casebacks are engraved with “63”, George Russell’s racing number since his early karting career.
Both timepieces are fitted with a blue rubber strap matching the dial accents, secured by a Ceratanium® pin buckle, and integrated with the EasX-CHANGE® system to allow the straps to be changed quickly without tools.
