Swiss watchmaker Formex has introduced technical updates to one of its flagship collections, the Essence 39. The newly refined model – Formex Essence 39 mm Automatic COSC – now features a screw-down crown, Sellita SW200-2 Power+ COSC movement, and a new micro-adjustable bracelet clasp, retaining the original case specifications.
The Essence 39 was introduced in 2020 as the smaller sibling to the original 43 mm model, which debuted in 2018. It was followed by the 41 mm Essence Leggera in 2022, the Essence Ceramica in 2025 and the stainless-steel Essence 41 later that year. The latest 39 mm version brings these technical developments together in the collection’s most popular case size.

The new screw-down crown has been taken from the Essence Ceramica Skeleton COSC 41 mm and is integrated with Formex’s patented Case Suspension System, originally patented in 2000. The construction maintains the watch’s 100-metre water resistance.
The timepiece measures 39 mm in diameter, 10.5 mm in height, with a 20 mm lug width and 45.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement. Its 316L stainless-steel case incorporates a Grade 2 titanium container and is topped by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with an internal anti-reflective coating. The caseback combines 316L stainless steel and sapphire crystal, also with internal anti-reflective treatment.
Three dial options have been offered – the signature Blue (Ref. 0339.1.6631), new Alpine White (Ref. 0339.1.6613), and new Radiant Bronze (Ref. 0339.1.6681). The Alpine White version features blued hands and indices, while the Radiant Bronze uses gunmetal-finished hands and indices. All three dials have individually CNC-milled horizontal grooves, hand-applied indices, faceted hands, and a bevelled date window at 6 o’clock with a colour-matched date wheel. The hands and indices are filled with BGW9 Super-LumiNova for low-light visibility.

Powering the watch is the Swiss-made Sellita SW200-2 Power+ automatic movement, a COSC-certified chronometer with 26 jewels and a Glucydur balance wheel. It offers a 65-hour power reserve while retaining a 4 Hz frequency, or 28,800 vibrations per hour. The movement features a custom-built skeleton rotor with blued screws.
The bracelet introduces a butterfly clasp with Formex’s patented on-the-fly Micro-Adjustment System, developed in collaboration with Dexel. It allows adjustment directly on the wrist in 3 mm increments, with up to 6 mm of adjustment, without opening the clasp or removing the watch. The system was first introduced on the Essence 41 Space Ghost Automatic COSC in 2025.
Additionally, the Essence 39 can be paired with nylon, leather, or rubber straps – closed with a carbon-fibre deployant clasp with 7 mm of adjustment across six micro-steps. All straps and the bracelet taper to 18 mm and can be changed by hand without tools.
The price for the Formex Essence Automatic COSC 39 mm starts at approx. INR 1,70,000 on nylon, leather, or rubber straps, while the stainless-steel bracelet version is priced at approx. INR 1,82,000.
