Arnold & Son has expanded its astronomy-inspired Perpetual Moon collection with three new limited editions that observe the changing colours of Earth’s natural satellite. Named “Colours of the Moon,” the novelties – Blue Moon, Golden Moon, and Red Moon – introduce a world first in watchmaking by combining mother-of-pearl with a PVD treatment for both the dial and the moon-phase sky. The watches are housed in stainless-steel cases and limited to just 18 pieces each.

The collection draws inspiration from some of the Moon’s most striking visual phenomena. The Blue Moon edition references the rare occurrence of an additional full moon within a season, as well as the cool blue tones occasionally created by atmospheric conditions. The Golden Moon takes its cue from the warm glow often seen when the Moon sits low on the horizon, while the Red Moon is inspired by the dramatic “Blood Moon” effect that occurs during a lunar eclipse.

Arnold & Son’s signature astronomical moon-phase display takes centre stage, where the large moon is crafted from mother-of-pearl and coloured red, gold, or blue depending on the model. Super-LumiNova is applied beneath the moon, creating a glowing effect in low light. The celestial display is further enhanced by hand-painted representations of the constellations Cassiopeia and Ursa Major, also coated with luminescent material. The two constellations were chosen as a tribute to navigators and mariners who historically relied on them to locate the Pole Star and determine direction at sea.

Arnold & Son is the first watchmaker to use a PVD treatment on mother-of-pearl. This has been achieved using a vacuum-deposition technique to add a thin metallic layer while preserving the natural iridescence of the mother-of-pearl beneath. The result is a dial and moon-phase sky that shift in appearance as light changes. Offered in black (for Red Moon), blue (for Golden Moon), or green (for Blue Moon) shades, the surfaces reveal different tones and patterns throughout the day, highlighting the organic structure of the material.

The new models also mark a departure from previous versions of the Perpetual Moon by introducing a stainless-steel case. Measuring 41.5 mm in diameter and 11.67 mm thick, the case offers a more versatile everyday presence while maintaining the exclusivity associated with the collection.

Inside the watches is the manual-wound manufacture Calibre A&S1512, developed in-house by Arnold & Son. With an impressive 90-hour power reserve and operating at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz), the movement drives the hours, minutes, and astronomical moon-phase display, while a secondary moon-phase indicator on the caseback allows precise adjustment of the complication. Visible through the sapphire-crystal caseback, it showcases traditional high-end finishing. The bridges are decorated with radiating Côtes de Genève and hand-bevelled edges, while the main plate features circular graining. Additional details include snail-finished wheels, blued screws with polished heads, and a rhodium-plated moon-phase display.

The watches are fitted with matching alligator leather straps in black, ink blue, or Cornwall green, depending on the model, and secured with stainless-steel pin buckles.
The Arnold & Son Perpetual Moon “Colours of the Moon” is offered in three references, each limited to 18 pieces worldwide. Each model is priced at INR 24,70,000.
