Marking a world’s first, Swiss independent watchmaker ArtyA Genève has introduced the Complexity, a highly technical timepiece featuring a double inclined tourbillon system. Released as the brand’s novelty for Watches and Wonders 2026, the watch is ArtyA’s most ambitious mechanical project to date, issued as a limited edition of just 9 pieces. The watch has been offered in two dial variations, Griffe or matte dial, each with two different cases, Pigeon’s Blood ruby or transparent sapphire.

Taking centre stage is the dual “Cônillon” system – an inclined tourbillon design in which the balance wheel follows a conical trajectory rather than the traditional cylindrical path. Here, two inclined tourbillons are positioned at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock, with none of the axes of the balance, cage, or pallet fork running parallel. The architecture compensates for gravitational effects across multiple positions simultaneously.

The two tourbillons are linked by a differential, which distributes energy evenly between them to ensure consistent torque, enabling kinematic averaging of rate deviations, thereby improving chronometric stability across all positions. Each tourbillon completes a full rotation every 30 seconds, with opposing rotational directions.

Powering this mechanism is the manually wound Complexity-01 calibre, developed in collaboration with Purtec Sàrl, based in Vallorbe. The movement comprises 287 components and 44 jewels, and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) with a 50-hour power reserve. It features an organic plate design with apertures at 12 and 6 o’clock to accommodate the tourbillons beneath sapphire domes.

All of this is housed in a fully transparent case made from synthetic sapphire, a material with a hardness of 9 on the Mohs scale. The case measures 42 mm x 48 mm with a thickness of 13 mm and features a triple-concave middle. Two integrated sapphire domes at 12 and 6 o’clock act as optical magnifiers for the tourbillons. Apart from this absolutely transparent case, another variant is also offered in a synthetic “Pigeon’s Blood” ruby, maintaining full transparency with a deep red tone.

The dial, as well, comes in two styles. The griffe dial features a rhodium black treatment with 3D point-cloud engraving, producing a radiating pattern from the centre. The matte dial uses a uniform shot-blasted finish for a subtle appearance. Both versions include hand mirror-polished applied indices and are offered in anthracite (red variant) or silver (transparent) tones.

The timepiece is finished with various haute horlogerie techniques like fine sandblasting across the movement, hand-polished bevelling, étiré cabron satin textures on the flanks, laser engravings highlighted with matte black lacquer, circular graining, and shot-blasted surfaces. Flanking it is an integrated rubber strap matched to the case colour and secured with an ArtyA deployant clasp.

The ArtyA Complexity is available for purchase by order through the brand and its official retailers. It is priced at approx. INR 2,20,95,000 for the sapphire version and approx. INR 2,55,80,000 for the ruby variant.
