In the late 1990s and 2000s, German watchmaking giant A. Lange & Söhne collaborated with the homegrown jeweller Wellendorff to create precious platinum and gold bracelets. These flanked some of its most honoured timepieces, particularly the Lange 1 'Stealth' (Ref. 101.325) and the 1st-generation Datograph in 1999, which was spotted on Michael Jordan’s wrist at the 2002 NBA.

While the platinum bracelet watch gained immense popularity amongst watch collectors, it was rarely found on timepieces, as it often matched the high price of the watch. The bracelet saw a dormant period for over a decade before reappearing in the newly released 50-piece limited edition. The release also marks the 20th anniversary of the Datograph Perpetual, first introduced in 2006, which brought together a flyback chronograph and perpetual calendar with the brand’s signature outsize date, taking cues from the architecture of the original Datograph launched in 1999.

The new A. Lange & Söhne Datograph Perpetual (Ref. 410.136E) comes flanked by a full 950 platinum five-row bracelet featuring alternating brushed and polished links, differentiated inner and outer elements, and pronounced polished chamfers along the sides. A platinum folding clasp bears the “Lange” inscription.

The watch retains the Datograph Perpetual’s 41 mm platinum case, measuring 13.5 mm thick, with sapphire crystals on both sides. Its solid-silver dial has a glossy black finish and rhodium-plated subsidiary counters. Eleven baguette-cut diamonds, totalling approximately 0.13 carats, serve as hour markers; the 4 and 8 o’clock positions are left unmarked, while two diamonds sit at 12 o’clock.

The main hour and minute hands are made of 18K white gold, while blued-steel hands indicate the subsidiary chronograph functions. The dial layout integrates the chronograph and calendar indications, with the oversized date positioned at the top. The 3 o’clock counter displays elapsed chronograph minutes alongside the month and leap-year indications. At 9 o’clock, the subdial combines small seconds, day-of-week, and day-night displays. The perpetual calendar also includes moon-phase indication.

Visible through the sapphire caseback, the manufacture Calibre L952.1 combines a hand-wound flyback chronograph with a perpetual calendar. The movement runs at 18,000 vibrations per hour, or 2.5 Hz, and offers a power reserve of approximately 36 hours. The chronograph uses a column wheel and horizontal clutch, while the movement is finished with German silver plates and bridges, polished edges, ribbed surfaces, blued screws, and polished steel components.
