Adding a new model to its unconventional wandering satellite hour display concept, independent watch brand Urwerk has unveiled the UR-100V LS Ceramic. This limited-edition timepiece integrates a three-dimensional planetary display showing the eight planets of the solar system, with each position corresponding to the actual time required for sunlight to reach that planet.

For this timepiece, the satellite hour module takes on a secondary function once it leaves the minutes track, becoming a marker that represents the journey of a photon travelling from the Sun to the planets. The indication is based on the constant speed of light, measured at 299,792 kilometres per second, and reflects the delayed nature of the light reaching Earth (8.3 minutes) and the other planets.

The case, measuring 43 mm in width, 51.73 mm in length, and 14.55 mm in thickness, is crafted from a specially developed white ceramic combined with silver glass-fibre layers and carbon inserts. Machining reveals a stratified structure that produces subtle variations between matte and softly reflective surfaces, depending on lighting and angle. Inside, the construction features a titanium inner container, while the caseback is made from DLC-treated Grade 5 titanium with sandblasted and shot-blasted finishes. The case is topped with a sapphire crystal, and a screw-down crown ensures water resistance up to 50 metres.

Driving the mini-satellite complication is the automatic UR 12.02 calibre. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and delivers a 48-hour power reserve via twin barrels. It incorporates Urwerk’s Windfänger system, an air-resistance turbine that regulates winding efficiency and prevents excessive energy input. It is built on three baseplates made from ARCAP alloy for stability. Other key components include aluminium hour satellites mounted on beryllium-bronze Geneva crosses, an aluminium carousel, and a black PVD-treated aluminium rotor. The movement is finished with circular graining, sandblasting, shot-blasting, and circular satin finishing, complemented by chamfered screw heads. Hours and minutes are treated with Super-LumiNova® for legibility.

The Urwerk UR-100V LS Ceramic is delivered on textured rubber straps, available in black or white, and fitted with a deployant buckle. The watch is produced as a limited edition and is priced at approx. INR 78,05,000.
