Oris brings a warm autumn glow to its signature pilot’s watch with the Big Crown Pointer Date x Cervo Volante, a 40 mm edition that blends vintage charm, sustainable craftsmanship, and seasonal colour. A long-standing symbol of Oris’ identity, the Big Crown Pointer Date dates back to 1938, when it was first designed with an oversized crown for aviators who needed to adjust their watches while wearing gloves. Decades later, it remains one of the brand’s cornerstones - a watch that not only carried Oris through the quartz crisis but continues to define its mechanical spirit.

This new collaboration with Cervo Volante, a Swiss company dedicated to crafting goods from sustainably sourced deer leather, adds a refined ecological layer to the story. Every year, around 15,000 red deer are culled in Switzerland to protect Alpine forests, and instead of letting the hides go to waste, Cervo Volante transforms them into durable, vegetable-tanned leather products—including the strap for this special watch. Here, the mahogany-brown deer hide strap pairs beautifully with the dial’s rich tones.

Protected by a domed sapphire crystal, the burnt maple gradient dial is inspired by autumn leaves. It starts with a warm orange at the centre that darkens toward the edge. Classic elements like cathedral hands, bold Arabic numerals, and a forest-green pointer date hand retain the historical pilot watch look, while Super-LumiNova ensures readability in low light.

In a slightly curved profile designed to hug the wrist, the 40 mm stainless steel case is polished and brushed in alternating surfaces and complemented by a fluted bezel and polished case flanks. It measures 12.2 mm in thickness and 48.2 mm lug-to-lug. Inside beats the automatic Oris Calibre 754 movement, based on the Sellita SW200-1, upgraded with Oris’ signature pointer date module. It runs at a 4 Hz frequency, offers a 41-hour power reserve, and features the brand’s hallmark red rotor, visible through the transparent caseback. The watch is water-resistant up to 50 metres.
Priced at approx. INR 2,50,000, the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date x Cervo Volante is delivered in a Cervo Volante deer leather travel pouch.
What we think - This is what we needed from Oris, a 40mm BCPD x Cervo Volante!
