Omega X Swatch returns with the Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold
Omega X Swatch returns with the Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold

After the Mission to Earthphase in a grey bioceramic edition, Swatch has returned with its latest blue Bioceramic MoonSwatch release, the Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold. To be launched exclusively on August 9, the night of the Sturgeon Full Moon, this limited model features a moon phase and an Earth phase indicator. It also includes illustrations from the world of Snoopy, with the beloved beagle and his co-pilot Woodstock marveling at Earth from the Moon.

Crafted in Swatch’s patented Bioceramic—a mix of two-thirds ceramic and one-third biosourced material from castor oil—the watch debuts in a dark navy blue hue inspired by the vastness of space. The 42mm asymmetrical case, 13.75mm thick with a 47.3mm lug-to-lug span, draws from Omega's popular Speedmaster Moonwatch, featuring recessed subdials, a tachymeter bezel in white on navy, and “OMEGA x Swatch” branding on the white opaline dial. The hour markers and hour and minute hands are illuminated by Grade A Super-LumiNova® with a green glow, while the box-shaped biosourced glass bears a subtle “S” at its centre.

The timepiece features a dual celestial display. At 2 o’clock, the moon phase indicator reveals two shimmering full moons coated in Omega's proprietary Moonshine™ Gold, one designed in Snoopy’s distinctive style and another decorated with a fishnet pattern, referencing the origins of the Sturgeon Moon’s name. In reverse, the Earth phase indicator shows how Earth appears from the Moon, progressing counterclockwise to the Moon’s motion. Behind this is a hidden Snoopy quote, “I beat everybody”, visible only under UV light. The quote is a part of the full phrase, “I beat the Russians... I beat everybody... I even beat that stupid cat who lives next door!”—from the Peanuts comic where the beagle Snoopy imagines himself to be the first dog to have landed on the Moon. The quote appears on the closed caseback, engraved, with a miniature Earth motif.

The watch is powered by a quartz chronograph movement, offering second-only chronograph timing alongside the two phase indicators. It is water resistant to 30 metres. Completing the watch is a navy Velcro rubber strap with matching Bioceramic loop, complementing the space-ready aesthetic.

The Mission to Earthphase – Moonshine Gold (Ref. SO33N701L) is available for one day only, in select Swatch stores worldwide. It is priced at INR 38,000.

What we think -

Yes, the Omega x Swatch Collab is great, a gamechanger, a gift from God, and over a gazillion iterations in the last 3 years it has made its point sufficiently. But don’t you think it is time to end, or at least pause, the endless slew of releases? How much plastic is truly being reclaimed and recycled through this venture? How much difference is Bioceramic truly making? While these are fun, nifty watches that give buyers a cheaper way into experiencing what an Omega Moonwatch might feel like, but ask any true watch collector and they will tell you it is quite evident that these watches are a cheap imitation of the real deal. Anyhoo, who even cares about watch collectors when there are oodles of money to be made!
