German watchmaker Laco has unveiled the latest evolution of its rugged professional tool watch, the Atacama.2—the Atacama.3. The novelty brings refinements to its predecessor while keeping the original aesthetics, making the watch suitable for both professional use and everyday wear.
The conical case, countdown bezel, and crown at 12 o’clock remain, but the case now measures 46 mm with a reduced height of 12 mm, improving comfort on the wrist. For the first time in the series, the Atacama.3 features a DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating, offering greater hardness, scratch resistance, and longevity compared to the PVD coating used on previous models. The deep black finish enhances its rugged look. Flexible lugs and a screw-down crown with a bright orange indicator ensure the watch maintains its impressive water resistance of 500 metres.
The dial has been redesigned for improved readability, featuring a newly beveled chapter ring for better depth perception and visibility from shallow angles. The matte black surface is paired with Arabic numerals and indexes coated with Super-LumiNova® C3. The hands are two-toned: an orange-lumed minute hand, a C3-lumed hour hand, and a white second hand also treated with Super-LumiNova®. The dial is protected by a flat sapphire crystal.
Powering the Atacama.3 is the Laco 200 automatic movement, based on the Swiss Sellita SW200-1 in Elaboré grade, with hacking seconds and a date display at 6 o’clock. The movement is visible through a sapphire crystal caseback.
In addition to the standard rubber strap, the watch is available with a DLC-coated stainless steel bracelet, closed with a folding clasp with a safety catch, and quick-release spring bars for easy strap changes. The Laco Atacama.3 (Ref. 861632.3) comes in a water- and dust-protected presentation box.
