Glashütte Original celebrates 180 years of Saxon watchmaking with a limited-edition piece

Glashütte Original has firmly established itself as one of the pioneers of German watchmaking. Founded in 1845, the brand now celebrates 180 years of legacy, honouring the small Saxon town of Glashütte where it was born. For this milestone, the maison has chosen one of its most recognisable models - the PanoMaticLunar, celebrated for its off-centred time display, Panorama Date, and moon-phase complication. After being released in dial colours such as silver, blue, salmon opaline, and forest green, the PanoMaticLunar now shines in aventurine for the first time.

This anniversary edition also marks the debut of the PanoMaticLunar in a platinum case. Measuring 40 mm in diameter, 12.8 mm in thickness, and 47 mm lug-to-lug, the case is topped with an anti-reflective domed sapphire crystal and offers 50 metres of water resistance.

The dark blue aventurine dial, also known as goldfluss, is flecked with copper inclusions, creating a shimmering, starry effect. Against this celestial backdrop, the moon-phase display features a moon crafted from white mother-of-pearl on an aventurine disc. The characteristic Saxon asymmetry takes centre stage—hours, minutes, and small seconds are arranged to the left, while the Panorama Date sits to the right. Solid-gold applied indices, paired with white-gold hands coated in Super-LumiNova for nighttime legibility, combine elegance with functionality.

Inside, the watch debuts the new in-house calibre 92-14, an evolution of Glashütte Original’s automatic movements. Beating at 4 Hz, it features a silicon balance spring for enhanced resistance to magnetism and temperature variations, while extending the power reserve to an impressive 100 hours—upgraded from the 42-hour autonomy of its predecessor, calibre 90-02. The movement, galvanic grey coated and hand-finished, displays signature elements such as a three-quarter plate and blued screws, visible through the sapphire caseback.

The watch is offered on either a blue Louisiana alligator leather strap or a blue synthetic alternative, both secured by a platinum folding clasp.

Limited to 180 pieces, the Glashütte Original PanoMaticLunar Anniversary Edition is priced at approx. INR 40,66,000.
