Breguet unveils the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035
Breguet unveils the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035

After presenting the Classique Souscription 2025, Breguet continues its 250th anniversary celebrations with the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035. Developed under Swatch Group’s late ex-CEO Nicolas G. Hayek, the Tradition collection pays tribute to the Tact and Souscription watches created by Abraham-Louis Breguet in the late 1970s.

The timepiece features a 38 mm case crafted from the brand’s newly developed Breguet gold, an alloy composed of gold, silver, copper, and palladium. Its open-dial design reveals the intricate calibre 505SR, a self-winding movement comprising 245 components, including 38 jewels and 24 blued screws, with bridges and mainplate finished in a combination of shot-blasting and hand-applied satin—a first for the Tradition series. The movement beats at a frequency of 3 Hz and offers a 50-hour power reserve, driven by a crescent moon-shaped rotor in Pt950 platinum, whose design is inspired by the oscillating weights of early Breguet “perpétuelle” watches. It also incorporates a newly patented blue Nivachron™ balance spring, offering resistance to magnetism and thermal variation.

On the upper portion of the dial is a luminous, off-centred subdial made of translucent blue grand feu enamel, decorated with a hand-guilloché Quai de l’Horloge motif—a design inspired by Île Saint-Louis and the curves of the Seine river, nodding to the location of Breguet’s original workshop on Île de la Cité. The contours of the motif are depicted in the famed Turgot map of 18th-century Paris. The dial’s Breguet Arabic numerals, fleur-de-lis minute track, and 18K gold open-tipped hands provide a shimmering contrast against the enamel’s rich blue hue, while a delicate retrograde seconds hand subtly finds its place between 10 and 11 o’clock.

Completing the timepiece is a navy blue alligator strap secured by an 18K Breguet gold buckle. A limited edition of 250 pieces, the Tradition Seconde Rétrograde 7035 is delivered in a numbered red Moroccan leather presentation case, inspired by the traditional boxes used in the brand’s early history.

What we think -

Massive year for Breguet and this release truly embodies what the watchmaking house has stood for in these 250 years. The best of finishing techniques, the best of materials, and the best of mechanical watchmaking. What a celebration!
