Atelier Wen introduces Millésime 2025 Perception with Pietersite dial

Atelier Wen has unveiled the Millésime 2025 Perception (Xuán), the second annual edition in its community-driven Millésime series, after the 2024 Millésime Perception in titanium and a purple guilloché dial. For the latest release, the brand has introduced a natural pietersite dial housed in a 904L stainless steel case, retaining the integrated-bracelet sports-watch format of the Perception line.

The pietersite stone, known for its swirling blue-black tones with gold and brown veins, has been selected for the dial to reminisce of the mountain-water landscape gardens - a miniature landscape traditionally found in Chinese architectural compounds. This concept aligns with the original design philosophy of the Perception line, which draws from classical Chinese architecture, including rooftops, windows, stone guardian lions, and traditional joinery techniques.

The pietersite dials are produced through a labour-intensive process. Raw stone slabs are carefully selected to ensure suitable colour distribution and visual flow. Due to the material’s brittleness, the twelve cut-outs for the hour indices are wire-cut by hand in Zhejiang before being polished in Guangdong, with close control required to balance surface finish and structural integrity.

For this edition, the natural pietersite dial is constructed using a four-layer architecture inspired by the ancient Chinese concept of Sunmao, based on mortise-and-tenon-style interlocking, where two joints are secured together at a 90-degree angle. It is paired with applied rhodium-plated indices and a black PVD-coated chapter ring featuring a Chinese huiwen pattern printed in X1-grade Super-LumiNova®.

The stainless steel case measures 40 mm in diameter, 47 mm lug-to-lug, and 9.4 mm in thickness, including the double-domed anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The semi-display caseback features a hammered texture surrounding a raised stone-lion motif, along with a small engraved Atelier Wen logo that marks the Millésime edition. The case is water-resistant to 100 metres.

Powering the watch is a customised extra-thin Dandong Peacock SL1588A automatic calibre, measuring just 3.4 mm in thickness. The movement operates at 28,800 vph (4 Hz) and offers an approximate 41-hour power reserve. It is adjusted in five positions and for temperature variation, and tested by China’s Horological Research Institute of Light Industry. Finishing includes circular côtes de Genève, polished jewel and screw sinks, heat-blued screws, and a tungsten rotor with black rhodium plating.

The watch is fitted with a brushed 904L stainless steel bracelet that tapers from 22 mm at the case to 18 mm at the clasp. It includes quick-release spring bars, a proprietary on-the-fly micro-adjustment system, and a telescopic deployant clasp for improved comfort.

The Atelier Wen Millésime 2025 Perception (Xuán) is available for purchase from the brand’s official website, priced at approx. INR 3,25,000.
