Angelus has launched the Chronographe Tachymetre collection, which comprises three limited editions inspired by the maison’s designs from the 1930s to the 1950s. The brand came into existence in Le Locle, Switzerland, in 1881. Angelus has a long watchmaking history with alarm watches, repeaters, and chronographs. The new model carries the same DNA, combining vintage architecture with a tachymeter scale to measure speed. The collection features an 18K gold model and two stainless-steel models. Following up on the telemeter-equipped Chronographe Télémètre, this model replaces distance tracking with a clean, single-track tachymeter scale.

‍

‍

The model features a 37 mm curved case with a thickness of 9.25 mm. The dial is protected by a sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The watch offers water resistance of up to 30 metres.

The new Chronographe Tachymetre offers three dial options inspired by motoring. The yellow-gold version has a golden dial with British racing green details, whereas the first steel model features a coral-pink dial with steel-grey accents, and the second steel version features a pearl-grey centre with a petrol-blue flange and counters.

‍

‍

All three dial versions feature a domed, grained central section, a satin-finished flange, a diamond-cut fillet, a snailed small-seconds display, and a 30-minute counter. The applied hour markers and Arabic numerals on the yellow-gold model come with a gold-tone finish, whereas the steel models feature black rhodium plating. The tachymeter scale is calibrated to a base unit of 1,000 and starts at 500 km/h. The wearer can measure the speed over a distance of one kilometre, with the result indicated on the scale by the central chronograph hand, while the time duration is displayed on the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock.

‍

‍

Housed inside the watch is the manual-winding mechanical calibre A5000, which operates at a frequency of 3 Hz and offers a power reserve of 42 hours. The main plate comes with a circular-grained 3N-gilt finish, while the bridges are gilt and decorated with Côtes de Genève and chamfered edges. The wheels are circled, and the screws are polished. The rhodium-plated chronograph mechanism is the odd one out, thus contrasting with the gilt components. The architecture of the calibre is the same as the original one, while a refined finish is observed in the bevelling and straight-grained surfaces; hence, smooth chronograph operation takes place in such a compact case.

The models are paired with calfskin straps in sage green, sepia grey, or steel blue, complementing the respective dial colours. The straps are secured with a pin buckle made from 18K 3N yellow gold for the gold version and stainless steel for the steel versions.

‍

The 18K yellow-gold model with a golden dial and green detailing is limited to 15 pieces and is priced at approximately INR 40,00,000. The stainless-steel version with a coral-pink dial is limited to 30 pieces, while the steel model with a grey and blue dial is limited to 50 pieces. Both steel versions are priced at approximately INR 21,00,000.
