In 2014, Jacob & Co. introduced a model that combined a traditional minute repeater with a flying tourbillon and cathedral gongs. This was the brand’s first Palatial Flying Tourbillon Minute Repeater, which marked its entry into chiming watches, establishing a direction that later expanded into musical mechanisms, multiple tourbillons, and elaborate acoustic complications.

‍

Now, as part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, Jacob & Co. is bringing back the timepiece as a limited edition of just 12 pieces. This updated version retains the original’s core design while incorporating several mechanical and acoustic improvements.

The Palatial’s relatively classic 43 mm round case has been retained, crafted in polished 18K rose gold with sculpted lugs. The thickness is 12.3 mm, and it is fitted with sapphire crystal on both sides. The water resistance of the watch is 30 metres.

The red transparent mineral dial reveals the chiming mechanism, allowing the cams, racks, levers, and hammers to be seen in action. Applied 18K rose-gold hour markers and a musical clef motif reinforce the watch’s connection to sound, while skeletonised metronome-style hands indicate the time. Matching the dial, the timepiece is offered with a red alligator leather strap.

‍

‍

Inside, the hand-wound Jacob & Co. calibre JCCM04 has been updated from the original movement. Developed in collaboration with Régence in Geneva, the calibre features redesigned cathedral gongs and modified hammers intended to improve the sound. A modern, silent centrifugal governor virtually eliminates background noise during the chiming sequence, producing a clear, harmonious tone with considerable volume. It operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour (3 Hz) and provides a 90-hour power reserve. The one-minute flying tourbillon is visible through the caseback, decorated with a grey-toned finish, Geneva-striped bridges, hand-polished angles, and drawn-finished edges.

‍

The Jacob & Co. Palatial Flying Tourbillon Minute Repeater (Ref. PT500.40.NS.AC.ABALA) is priced at approx. INR 3.75 Cr.
