Amongst many of legendary designer Gérald Genta’s most iconic works is the IWC Ingenieur SL, brought to life in 1976. The model helped define the design language of the collection, which today still stands as one of the most sought-after collections in the brand’s history.
Celebrating the glorious 50th anniversary of the icon, IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled two limited editions – Ingenieur Automatic 40 50th Anniversary (Ref. IW328910) and Ingenieur Automatic 35 50th Anniversary (Ref. IW324909) – each limited to 1,150 pieces. The design retains key elements of Genta’s original, including the characteristic bezel secured by five functional screws, a structured integrated bracelet, and detailed finishing.

The timepieces are crafted in stainless steel, along with distinctively brushed silver-plated dials inspired by the rare variant of the original Ingenieur SL – the Ref. 1832 – that used a silver-plated brushed finish instead of its better-known structured dial.
The anniversary dials are complemented by rhodium-plated hands and metal hour markers filled with Super-LumiNova. The usual lightning-bolt symbol below the “Ingenieur” name has also been replaced by the number “50” to mark the anniversary. Both bezels are satin-finished with polished edges, and anti-reflective sapphire crystals cap the case from both sides.

The Ingenieur Automatic 40 is powered by the IWC-manufactured Calibre 32111, an automatic movement with a double-pawl winding system and a 120-hour power reserve. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and drives the date display and central hacking seconds, and is integrated with a screw-in crown. A soft-iron inner case provides protection against magnetic fields, similar to the construction of the original Ingenieur SL. This model measures 10.8 mm thick and is integrated with a satin-finished stainless-steel bracelet with a butterfly folding clasp. Water resistance is 100 metres.
The Ingenieur Automatic 35 is 9.4 mm thick and has the same water resistance and bracelet design, with the only difference being that this one has polished middle links. The timepiece is powered by the automatic IWC Calibre 47110 with a 42-hour autonomy. It also beats at 4 Hz and drives the date display and central hacking seconds. The caseback offers a view of the movement decorations such as circular graining, Geneva stripes, and a gold-plated oscillating weight.
The Ingenieur 40 is priced at approx. INR 17,00,000, and the Ingenieur 35 is priced at approx. INR 14,00,000.
