Frédérique Constant revisits the 1920s for the new Classics Carrée Automatic collection
Frédérique Constant revisits the 1920s for the new Classics Carrée Automatic collection

Revisiting the elegance of the Art Deco era, Frédérique Constant has unveiled the new Classics Carrée Automatic collection, paying homage to the aesthetic of the 1920s. The Classics Carrée line was introduced in 2003 and evolved over the years through iterations such as the XL model and the brand’s renowned Heart Beat aperture. This latest iteration is devoid of the ‘heartbeat’, emphasising the minimal, understated design language of the early 20th century.

The timepieces come in a rectangular case measuring 30.4 mm x 33.3 mm, crafted in stainless steel or rose gold-plated. The stainless steel models are offered with silver, blue, or salmon dials, and the rose gold-plated model is paired with an elegant white dial. It is accentuated with applied baton indexes, including a double index at 12 o’clock, replacing the previous Roman numerals, complemented by dauphine hands. A rectangular date window, framed in the same metal finish as the case, stands at 6 o’clock.

At the centre, a finely guilloché rectangle enhances the vintage appeal, bordered by a classic railroad-style minute track that recalls pocket watches and dress watches of the Art Deco period. The vintage appeal is completed by the traditionally styled onion crown at 3 o’clock.

Powering the collection is the automatic FC-303 (Base SW200) movement, which beats at a frequency of 4 Hz with a 38-hour power reserve. The timepieces are flanked by calf leather finished with crocodile pattern and closed with a pin buckle.

Each piece is priced at approx. INR 95,000.

What we think -

With the frequency Frederique Constant is releasing watches one would assume it is some sort of anniversary year for the brand. But it isn’t, and we are loving the barrage of new watches from a fan favorite watchmaker that listens closely to its fan base. The icing on the cake is the range of refreshing watches targeted at women. Kudos to the brand for making bold moves in an uptight market.
