Breguet has gone back to its nautical roots once again with the introduction of new versions of the Marine 5517 and Marine Chronographe 5527 featuring hand-guilloché dials. Both timepieces are offered in white gold, rose gold, and titanium versions, extending Breguet’s maritime-inspired collection across three-hand and flyback chronograph configurations.

The Marine collection revisits Abraham-Louis Breguet’s history as Watchmaker to the French Royal Navy, appointed to the position by Louis XVIII in 1815. The same year, Breguet created marine chronometers and instruments that accompanied major maritime expeditions, including voyages by Louis Le Goarant de Tromelin, Hyacinthe de Bougainville, and Jules Dumont d’Urville.

The Marine 5517 is the simpler three-hand model, with the date now positioned at 6 o’clock for a more balanced dial. Its 18K gold dial features hand-guilloché decoration in Breguet’s “Quai de l’Horloge” pattern, a motif introduced for the Maison’s 250th anniversary and inspired by the contours of the Île de la Cité and Île Saint-Louis – two natural islands on the Seine River – as well as the movement of waves. The guilloché gold base is treated and lacquered in different colours depending on the version.

It retains Breguet Arabic numerals and the brand’s characteristic “apple” hands. The seconds hand is shaped with a “B” inspired by the “Bravo” maritime flag, while the crown guard evokes waves. On the reverse, the gold oscillating weight takes cues from a ship’s rudder and is visible through the sapphire caseback.

The watch has been offered in three versions. The 18K white-gold model Ref. 5517BB/YA/5ZU on rubber and Ref. 5517BB/YA/BZ0 on bracelet has an ice-blue lacquered dial. The 18K rose-gold version, Ref. 5517BR/99/5ZU and Ref. 5517BR/99/RZ0, uses a black lacquered dial. The titanium version, Ref. 5517TI/Y9/5ZU and Ref. 5517TI/Y9/TZ0, features a blue-gradient dial. All measure 40 mm in diameter, 47.7 mm lug-to-lug, and 11.50 mm thick, with a fluted middle case, screw-down crown, double anti-reflective sapphire crystal on the dial side, and 100-metre water resistance. Powering the Marine 5517 is the self-winding Breguet Calibre 777A with a silicon spiral, a 55-hour power reserve, and a 4 Hz frequency.

The sportier Marine Chronographe 5527 adds a flyback chronograph. A central seconds hand works with a minute counter at 3 o’clock and small seconds at 9 o’clock, while the date is positioned at 6 o’clock. Like the 5517, the chronograph models use “Quai de l’Horloge” hand-guilloché gold dials, with nautical details including a “B”-shaped central chronograph hand, a wave-inspired crown, and a rudder-inspired oscillating weight.

Crafted in 18K white gold, Ref. 5527BB/YA/5WV and Ref. 5527BB/YA/BW0 feature a blue-gradient dial with a grey-treated finish. The 18K rose-gold version, Ref. 5527BR/Y9/5WV and Ref. 5527BR/Y9/RW0, uses a blue-gradient dial, while the titanium model, Ref. 5527TI/GA/5WV and Ref. 5527TI/GA/TW0, features a grey-gradient dial. All three measure 42.3 mm in diameter, 50.7 mm lug-to-lug, and 13.9 mm thick, with a fluted middle case, screw-down crown, double anti-reflective sapphire crystal on the dial side, and 100-metre water resistance.

Beating inside the Marine Chronographe 5527 is the automatic Breguet Calibre 582QA. It features a silicon spiral, silicon inverted anchor, flyback chronograph function, and a 48-hour power reserve, operating at 4 Hz or 28,800 vibrations per hour.
Both the 5517 and 5527 are offered on rubber straps carrying the “Quai de l’Horloge” motif or matching metal bracelets, with three-blade folding clasps.
